I love these old black and white news reports....this one is special!
1945 - Japanese surrender - a keeper
This film is believed to have never been seen before, only shots of the surrender were known.
If you are a history buff you will enjoy this. General McArthur's voice is a rarity in these old film clips
Japanese Surrender- Amazing Footage Sept 2, 1945.
This is a 'must see' for the WWII history buff or anyone interested in history.
Interesting the other signers to the document, from New Zealand/Australia to Europe/Russia.
This is an actual film made of the surrender ceremony of the Japanese to McArthur in Tokyo Bay in September 1945.
Actual voice of the General. Never been shown to the general public before.
We always saw the "stills" but never the film itself

My Grandmother was a nurse in the Phillipines and escaped when McCarthur evacuated and declared "I shall return". Her first husband survived the Bataan Death March, only to die a few years later.

The things we cry about today compared to what her generation went through makes me scratch my head.

The largest natural disaster may start with a single raindrop. Japan may have seen that plane, and ignored it, since it seemed like a house-fly, though it created perhaps one of the two largest manmade disasters in all of history.

Had they shot it down, what might have happened? Possibilities likely range from a higher detonation that could have wiped out the entire nation to non detonation which could have given them a chance to use it.

Even that nuclear disaster happened because their bay EMPTIED after an earthquake. The damage came when the water came back.

So YEAH, people may complain. And YEAH, it may seem insignificant, but things like the takeover of germany by the nazis don't happen over night.(NOT a godwin reference, just a historic example)

My grandfather fought in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. War makes heroes out of bad men and good men alike. There is no meaning in the deaths of its participates save what we give them. And hopefully that is a respect for their sacrifice, and a reminder to avoid such as Providence allows.

your absolutely bang on with this folks! We are living the dream created by these brave men and women. Relative period of peace.
They just got on with life. Even as the Olympics are on now, i was reading about the London Olympics held in 1948 first one after the war. All the athletes were rationed because of food shortages. Countries sent supplies of food to help during the games.

It was called the Austerity Olympics.
The UK was on food rations well into the 1950`s.
