Just found out that the coverage of the Opening Ceremonies I watched did NOT include a very important part of the ceremonies where they paid tribute to their terrorist victims of 7/7. Unbelievable! What could NBC be thinking?

Here's The Opening Ceremony Tribute To Terrorism Victims NBC Doesn't Want You To See

edit: There are some reports that it was more generally a tribute to those who had passed away before the Olympics could begin. Regardless it was cut out of the US broadcast.

Didn't NBC also deliberately manipulate a voice clip of George Zimmerman to make it seem as if Trayvon Martin was killed because he was of African-American decent?

NBC is a joke. However, how that "dancing" qualifies as a tribute is beyond me. Can anyone explain that to me?

I don't care much for NBC but I think perhaps this cut was to fend off other criticisms.

Israel has complained there is no memorial for Jews killed in a prior Olympics, some in the U.S. complain there should be recognition of 9/11, and on and on.

The host country can choose what to memorialze, if anything. Truth is, most people watching in the U.S. probably wouldn't know what event was being remembered.

It used to be that people would comment on high points - and now it seems online everything is a criticism.

I thought the Olympics was about sports?

This isn't a criticism of the Olympics - it's a criticism of the failed coverage. For one - I would have loved to have seen the opening ceremony live, rather than having the high moments spoiled from reading about it online.

The company that is privileged with covering the Olympics, should do just that. These are not the USA Olympics, so just point the cameras and let us decide if it's something we'd like to see. Watching the opening ceremony drove me nuts. I felt like I was watching a Thanksgiving day parade. Quit commenting, and just let us see it the way those in the stadium are seeing it.

Sorry for the rant. I don't like NBC, but I'll watch the Olympics on there if they'd do it right. Hopefully their coverage of the sports is better.

And yes Olympics is about sports. But we all know that a HUGE part of the Olympics is the ceremony involved. To me it was disrespectful not to cover every part of the ceremony part. Especially when hosting the Olympics for a city is usually a once in a lifetime event.

    Jeff,

It is NOT supposed to be about sports. Sports happens ALL THE TIME! It is about INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION! So it has sports, and is done through sports. The 5 rings represent the five continents that compete.

The goal is SUPPOSED to be for those competing, and at the competitions, to at least FEIGN freindship. Even NAZI GERMANY did that. A black winning a race didn't make hitler happy. He was downright annoyed, but things continued!

    Kay,

I ADMIT it! I didn't know the SPECIFICS. I looked it up. It was as I thought.

I also admit I don't know the history of exclusions of opening events, etc... If I watch ANYTHING, it is just a few parts. But this COULD be considered an afront, and may be, to the UK. Granted, it isn't like TOO much will happen, but it CAN be embarassing and hurt relations with them. And for WHAT? RYAN SEACREST? COME ON!

You want the TRUTH? For the last 4 years, they have tried to rewrite history in the US, etc... Without getting too specific, this means that ANYTHING against islam is effectively off limits no matter how true. HECK, there is a raunchy program here called "southpark" that is about a bunch of vulgar kids that are perhaps 8-12yo. It insults perhaps EVERY religion. It insults every god, prophet, etc... YEP, EVERY ONE! ******EXCEPT****** ISLAM. GRANTED, that is primarily because of the problem that danish cartoonist had, and threats, but now it has invaded a lot.

The way wikipedia starts out describing the terrorists is a way the current government doesn't like.

You want to see an EXAMPLE of how bad things are? How about a US judge that uses the Koran, talks about sharia, says the victim could have gotten the DEATH penalty in many parts, and a person accused of strangling him wasn't even reprimanded? He says that this is reasonable because he attacked their RELIGION! And he says that such things are NOT protected by the first amendment. The VERY SAME amendment used to justify attacks against every OTHER religion!

That judge SHOULD be DISBARRED! Say 10 years ago, perhaps even 4, he probably WOULD have. The state board said they gave him a warning and closed the case.

BTW to those from the UK... I think that performance was a little TOO symbolic, though I think I get it. I guess it was symbolizing the terror and confusion, death, protection of innocent people from the tragedy, reuniting of families, and the continuation of a normal life. It should have been shown by everyone though.

BTW it is ironic! If not for sharia, the treatment of women, and terrorism, I doubt ANYONE would say anything bad about islam or mohammud.

Extremists are extremists - doesn't matter what religion or flag is used as justification.

Focusing in progress, some Islamic countries have women athletes participating in the games for the first time. I thought that was interesting.

On another positive note, no matter where they were made I thought the U.S. uniforms looked clean and crisp and made a good show. Of course, no one could beat the UK on uniforms this year.

See how easy it is to find something good?

CERTAINLY! But if there is a relatively rare characteristic, it shouldn't be hidden. After all, a felon my have a relatively common, for tatoos, tatoo, and they will often mention it. Nobody is saying all moslems, muslims, or how ever you write it, are bad.

YEP, but the violence, and number of some that want to LIMIT women is growing.

I haven't even seen them yet. 8-/ Of course, unless there is some NEAT and novel thing that is good, or they are really bad, I won't offer an opinion there. And NOBODY said the chinese made ugly clothing.

HECK, I like SIMPLE shoes, that would be FAR easier to make and take less work. Shoes like they made about 100, or even 40, years ago. I have trouble finding such things because a lot of shoes, even DRESS shoes, but ESPECIALLY sneakers, have a LOT of pieces and may have SEVERAL colors. I don't like things that fancy, but I guess many MUST. The labor costs are probably 5 times or more as high and that might be part of the reason why so many are made in china and similar places, where the labor is so cheap.

As for the olympics, a lot of uniforms didn't seem that complex, and didn't have that many colors, and I think many often look FINE.

I knew they designed it, etc... but I didn't think it made it on the air. As for NBC never being credible, I thought it USED to be. Alas, I listened to it VERY little until I was close to graduating highschool.

EVERYONE, REMEMBER, I said south park insults perhaps every other one. That INCLUDES christianity, and the Christian god. And many americans consider THAT an afront.

But christians willingly even let SATANISM exist to maintain religious freedom. You can't have full human sacrifices, or hurt kids. To a degree, you can't hurt animals. Otherwise, most things are allowed EVEN for voodoo and satanism. The same is certainly true of islam. As long as you don't hurt people without cause, or limit freedom, most things are allowed. And some christians try to push things with snakes, etc...(By allowing the snakes to bite them, or playing with the snakes, to show their faith) and THAT is restricted, so restrictions DO affect christians also. To listen to the judge in that link I posted earlier, you would think Moslems were the ONLY ones that had to deal with contrary ideas, or insults.

AGAIN, not meant to be religious, only to explain the application of the first amendment.

most of them were texting while waiting for the other teams.
Some texting, many taking pictures. Seemed odd to me but I guess that's how things are now.

When my kids were young I often left the camera at home because I wanted to enjoy the experience of an outing rather than worrying about photos. In this time of twitter and iphones, I wonder if anyone just enjoys the moment and creates memories instead of focusing on creating images or chatter.

In Australia the Nine Network has exclusive rights to the Games. As the Aussie team entered the arena fairly early, we missed out on seeing a lot of the teams entering while 9 concentrated on the Aussies. Many shots were of their backs, and most of them were texting while waiting for the other teams.

Twitter was going ballistic at the coverage, and obviously 9 picked up on this so by the time the Fijian team were entering they decided to cover the entrances.

That, combined with inane commentary from Eddie McGuire makes the coverage by NBC (from what I've read above) seem extremely professional by comparison.

NBC is a bit of a wanker really. It was shoddy coverage of the Royal Wedding last year. oo many adverts, nonstop chitchat etc. NPR had a fantastic column criticising the coverage today. Here, read this.

    And in other Olympic news...

You know what else is really annoying? I have been trying to buy Team GB stuff from the online shop, but the IP address gets intercepted and reroutes you to the Team USA shop. I don't want no stinkin' USA stuff! (Sorry, Americans, no offense lol)
