Wrong, Thom. The most dangerous mammal in North America just got locked up. It's the beast known as Bernard Madoff...this cretin has driven grown men to their death and has ruined more lives than any Bambi could ever hope to.

      Man goes without saying.
Deer still win against Madoff, of course they have been at it longer.

Well, they can't carry guns so I guess it's their only recourse for retaliation.
I'm surprised they just don't start giving them jobs -that's the way it works with any other dangerous group.

I like how they have "non-human" in the first sentence... when I read the title of this thread, homo sapiens instantly sprang to mind. Dangerous buggers, they are!

Looked like deer on a Stupidity run to me...or maybe the store owner shot one of their cousins or something and it was payback time.

This is another salute to the vanity of man.

Why is being being involved in a road accident by a creature that can neither drive a car nor read road signs considered to make that creature dangerous?

It's still the lunatic behind the wheel who creates the accident by excess speed, lack of attention to the road and a cavalier attitude to anything else that is not his car.

I suppose people don't get involved in fatal accidents when walking on the road?

      Not really true Art.
Though I've never hit one I've seen their M.O. plenty of times.
They will jump in front of a car or motorcycle out of the brush at night when you can't see them and then just stand there in front of you.
Speed has nothing to do with it.
Here's's a video of a deer in the daytime, to give you an idea of what they can be like.

Well, deer looks harmless when looking at it at pictures. I think this case is similar to airplane accidents due to migrating birds, just merely getting in the way causing some casualties.

That deer must have been related to the two Danish women who ran into traffic on the M6 in the UK - maybe they trained it'.

Deer tend to behave the way you describe where ever you see them but when drivers know they are about and drive accordingly, there should be a chance of avoiding accidents. Of course, there will always be the odd one that is too scared by what is chasing it to be scared enough of the traffic it is being chased towards. In this video it seems to be a white faced dog but I couldn't get enough definition to be sure.

True, that's why I've been lucky so far.
But you still have problem with drivers who don't know where the deer are about, and the deer who don't always show up where you expect them.
Even on the interstate's where they have deer fence up to keep them off the road, deer get hit by cars.
In the last 100 years the deer population has exploded around here.
Even the bigger city parks and cemeteries have deer living in them.
I have even reached the point where I won't ride my motorcycle at night if I can avoid it because of the deer.
We have a saying here. "It's not the deer that ran across the road you worry about. It's the 4 in back of it that you worry about."

I am one of the unfortunite people that have hit a deer. I have been a deer hunter hunter for thirty years and I pretty much know the habits of deer. I watch for them any time I get behind the wheel and usually see up to fifty in the period of 2 hours. I hit one that came from a fence row that wasn't big enough to harbor ,or so I thought a deer. It's not where they should be, it's where you don't expect them to be that they come in contact with the cars. It is not always because of a lack of driving skills but the surprise.

Maybe the most vicious, but still more deaths are attributed to deer then any other 4 legged mammal in the US.
