600 million people without power. What would you do?

More people than the population of the Unites States are without power.

This got me to thinking... What if, where ever you are, there was (were?) no power in your half of your country?

Of course no power around the house, apartment, etc.
No 'fridge.
No water.
No traffic lights.
No gas. Gas stations are without power.
No job to go to.
No money. Banks and atm's are not available.
No Internet, computers, cell phones, etc.

How long before you run out of water? Sodas? Beer? Food?
Where are going to go to the bathroom?
Would you give water to the cat? Children? Significant other?

What else can you think of as far as things you would be without?
What situations this would create for you?
What things can you or have you done to help mitigate a situation like this to some degree?

    OMG! No Warrior Forum! {breathing into a paper bag}

Seriously, I think about this scenario a lot. We have horses, so how would I water them?? That one scares me the most. Luckily our property has a nice big creek behind it!
Besides what you stated above, I would worry about looters and panicers. There are a "few" that love any excuse to do wrong.

That would be insanely intense, when Christchurch had their earthquake over here some people were without power for a few days, that was crazy enough. I work in a call centre which deals with power companies after hours and some of the calls were horrible. People would say their elderly mother / new born baby needed a breathing machine, $1000's worth of food had gone rotten, cows needed milking, they hadn't had a shower for days. The saddest thing is, they were complaining but they didn't realise people had died in the earthquake in the city, because they had no power to watch TV : (

Does this mean if I call Dell, eBay, or Google today, I might get an English speaking person on the line?

But if the power went out here, I'd probably thoroughly enjoy myself. I have a spring fed creek in the back yard I could use for water. And it's probably the same place I'd be hanging out at fishing until the power came back on.

And actually we've had an outbreak of Crayfish in our local waterways here. Most people are annoyed by them, but I love them. So I'd probably pick a few tomatoes and ears of corn from the garden and cook up a nice huge pot of spicy Crayfish Gumbo. Then I'd hang out with my feet in the creek while eating a bowl of Gumbo and dream about never having to return to my computer.

      That's not true at all!

Sure all of the people who lived prior to the harnessing and use of electricity are dead, but it's from the passage of time, not from the lack of "power".

There weren't 7 billion people in those days either. It takes power to supply that kind of population numbers. We don't have it. We're using 1.5 planets worth of power now and sooner or later it's going to fail. I agree with starting to install your own power supplies on your own property if at any way possible. Not only will people be more secure with their own power supply, the more people we can get off the main grid, the more stable it will be for those who have no recourse to get off it.

What is impressive as reports today say almost ALL power has been restored. How did they do that in just 2 days? That's pretty good.
