Internet trademark for domain name..?

Hello Warriors,

I am a relatively new blogger. Just got some emails from some overseas outfit, notifying me that my domain name was included in a filing request to get an 'internet trademark' on the phrase.

The email came from:

Richard | Auditing Officer
SK Net Service Company LTD | Dispute Registration Department |
NON-PROFIT Intellectual Property Rights Protection Center.and Anti Cyber Squatting Center in China
Office: +852-3075 9838 | Fax:+852-30198068
Email: richard@dnrcenter.hk Website: SK Holdings Company Ltd , SK Net Service Company Ltd

They want to know 'what I want to do' about securing the internet trademark...

Am I on the receiving end of a hoax? Maybe they are hoping I will Paypal some money to them, for this filing?

Or is there something to this 'internet trademark' thing?
I thought that a valid domain registration was solid enough...

Has anyone ever dealt with an issue like this previously?

Thanks to anyone who might have advice, comments...or education on the subject.

Cathy

Very well could be a scam to scare you into payment. I'd check it out.
I've never heard of an Internet Trademark - it is either trademark or it isn't.
The non-profit intellectual rights stuff sounds pretty off-kilter, too.

I'd send the email to the trademark registration department and see what they think of it.
They might want to seek out the sender to prosecute them - if this is a scam, and I am almost sure it is, it's very illegal.

Just looked at the links you have posted -- Is this YOUR company or did they send you an email?
If the later, blast them out of the water - if the previous, consider yourself blasted for spam.

      Thanks Sal for your comments.

No, that information is NOT my company. I was posting the information containted in the email sent to me...just in case anyone had seen this type of thing previously.

Having done some more digging around, I believe it is some sort of scam.
But it certainly brings up some issues that I need to be more educated about.

My apologies for appearing to spam the forum. NOT my intention at all.

Both of the companies listed have significant listings in google. That doesn't mean the email is legitimate - but it does makes it worth checking out.

As you didn't post the email itself, hard to know what they were referring to. Are they saying you are in violation of a trademarked name?

If so, you can check that by looking up the trademarks online to see if they exist.

I would not assume "scam" without doing some research on it. Did they mention a specific "name" you are using online that is in violation?
