TLC finds the weirdest stuff. But, these girls are really something. They are special people dealt a tough hand. And looks like they are trying to make the best of it. I congratulate their courage, and hope the TV execs don't try to turn them into some sideshow.

You have a point. I have known about these girls almost since their birth, and it is a fascinating story, and the way they were accepted warmly into their community was very commendable - they do realize they are different, but they have never been ostracized or meant to feel so - some curious questions get asked in these sort of situations, and this a unique opportunity to examine them, and ask them honestly.

I too, hope this does not turn into a circus act - but that may just be dreaming..

What impresses me most about them is how completely normal their personalities are. I think I'd be instantly comfortable hanging out with them.

    • Two things come to mind:
      1. Automatic threesome.

If only their heads weren't, um, next to each other permanently.

      2. If I married them, would I be committing polygamy?

Would your wife be bitchy at twice the national average?

Do they BOTH have feeling below the waist, or only part. Do they each have full control of the legs, or one has each, or what? And YEAH, if they have two hearts, and stomachs, can one starve or get a heart problem while the other is fine? There is also a special nerve bundle that controls the heart, and other things. It is special because it is OUTSIDE of the spinal column. It is called te vagus nerve, which means WANDERING nerve. Do they each have one? How is THAT connected? As I recall, it slows down the heart as well. What of the hearts pump out of sync, etc? As for biological, the child would likely be normal, and be the same as it would be if either one of them had it and they were separate.

And WHY did they each have to get a drivers license? What good is the second license? Outside of relative head placement, and related distortion, they are IDENTICAL! Same place, same DNA, same history, etc.... So if one gets a strike, or ticket, etc... They BOTH do! In fact, it should be one license to a physicality. They could put both names on ONE license, much the way the olsen twins got credit on full house as the main character! They essentially did EXACTLY what these twins did! They both played the SAME KID! ONE physicality! If ONE got fired, they BOTH did! If ONE got acclaim, they BOTH did! They BOTH got work because ONE could be handled! WHICH ONE? WHO KNOWS?

Haha was thinking that too. Would be crazy if they both have the same feeling..

About the hands/legs I bet they can each control only one set, which does make every motoric action really complicated when you think about it.

  • These girls could never have pulled off the acting job the Olsen twins did...it is much easier to spot them as twins (unless you do CGI )...speaking of which - if they get a job, do they get two paychecks?

And if one makes more money...can she claim her sister as a dependent?

WHY SHOULD THEY get paid more? Outside of perhaps pure mental tasks, vocal tasks, or as a circus act, they could never be better than a regular person, all others being equal. They have little need for anything extra.

  • I wonder what would happen if one became schizophrenic?

Or got amnesia...and woke up and didn't know she was a conjoined twin!

On a more scientific note, I wonder if they have conducted brain scans to see if there is a telepathy between the two individual brains - ie: one gets thought that creates physiological reaction, and the other brain reacts? Or remains indifferent? Does the neural connection split the two brains, share the resources, or cause one to be dominant? Can there be truly independent thought?

I don't think they will be a freak show in any way - I've read about these girls before this show was on the horizon and they seem to be well adjusted.

I think some of the comments say more about the people making them than about the girls on the TV show.

Sort of proves my point - guess it would depend on whether your state allows homosexuals to legally marry, wouldn't it

A number of "freak shows" are either inanimate or reasonable. HECK, look at the story about the elephant man. At least according to the movie, they ridiculed him, and imprisoned him as a circus freak show act, and yet he was a decent guy with an attitude and class better than almost anyone that saw him.

What if one of them dies?

        I just watched the video.

Beyond the surface issues of boyfriends and who gets the ticket for speeding, what if one dies? There would have to be major surgery almost immediately. The human animal will not live long with large amounts of decaying tissue in the body.

I was wondering the same thing. They have two nervous systems. So, who controls the hands and the legs? Is it split one each? So, if one of them dies, would the other one become paralyzed on the other side?

Have you EVER seen information on such things? Trying to cut apart conjoined twins is like trying to demolish a building. They have to do tests to see how all the bones, vessels, nerves are connected, and carefully dissect them properly. Even THEN, it is anybody's guess.

I don't imagine it would be easy. The vagus nerve might have to somehow be redirected, the jugglers might have to be connected, any dying organs might have to be bypassed. And what if each twin DOES control half the body? The remaining person would be an oddly shaped cripple. of course, if each heart pumps blood through a different part of the body, she may need a new heart because byassing everything would be less efficient and put an extra strain on the heart.

You know, the liver is the only organ that can LITERALLY be cut in HALF! Each half will grow back into a complete full sized liver. It IS a shame. If they knew that back then, they MIGHT have been able to separate them. Then again, they didn't worry about keeping things clean back then.

Ok I am appalled at the comments on this thread. Demeaning is not the word for it.
I have posted stuff on the forum that has been seen fit by the moderators as not suitable.
In my estimation they have been mild by comparison.

Making light, ( fun) over physical deformity is not funny, clever or indeed worthy.
where are you moderators? where are your standards now?
I wonder if this post will be allowed?

You have made it a freak show in the sense of the theme your comments have migrated too.
I like you all guys, but come on! Ask your self this question: If it was your son, daughter would you be comfortable reading this?

Any comment in this thread is nothing compared to what they will be subjected to if the show actually takes off.
(Which is the closest to the point I was trying to make earlier).
It seems they have been raised in a healthy environment which is why now they seem so normal, but if the show takes off they will be treated a lot differently, and it wont be for the better.

This also applies to the other reality show there are a couple of threads about right now with "honey boo boo".
While the show and the people on it disgusts me, I am very sorry for the little girl who is being jubjected to this because of her mother/parents.

And of course the Network channell that even puts on trash tv like this should be ashamed, but then, the almighty dollar is more important than any ethics or sense of decency.
