This morning , when I open my toshiba laptop, I scared to found it could not start windows! Last night, I downloaded some files from a alien download site, maybe virus invade my computer. So i started it in safe mode to remove but when i do it tells me there's an error with '/windows/system32/config/system' and that i need to insert the cd and press 'r' to repair but nothing happens when i do it. it just goes right back to that screen. I'm using Windows 7.

From the prompt, what I can learn is my system files were damaged, and my windows won't start any-data-recovery.com/windows-start-up.htm . I seldom contact computer expertise, so how to solve it I know nothing at all, what should I do? As we all know, the universal solution to computer software problem is re-install windows. However, it will lose my data. I have spent one month committed to my landscape design document and tomorrow I must submit to my boss. I am regret haven't backup my design document deeply.

When meet something I have no idea what to do, I likely to search for the answer on the internet. When I see the solution, an authoritative answer said, the system32 file is evidence of malware. It can prevent Windows from starting when that malware fails to launch, unforunately. There are options available to you to avoid this problem recurring. You can replace Windows - which is highly prone to this type of error - with a system in the GNU/Linux family. GNU/Linux is far more reliable, ext. A fit of dizziness came over me, it's too hard to understand!

I couldn't find a available solution for the windows 7 won't start. In fact, I don't mind re-install windows, but I need my landscape design document. When I was so worried, my friend Andrew came to my home, after he knew of the situation, he said he also came accross such issue before, and told me he can help me. What he did is download a software called Tenorshare Data Recovery WinPE, it need burn into CD/DVD,or USB flash first, and then set the Bios to enter the software recovery windows, then I could choose the data I want, and save in other disk except the disk C. After I saved my design document, Andrew also helped me re-install my windows.

Thank goodness, I keep my landscape design solution perfectly! Although such method still a little complex, it can solve my data will not be lost problem primely. When windows won't start, how to reduce the loss to a minimum is the first thing to do. Thence, when such thing happen to you unluckily, I think my experience will help you.

Hmmmmm, l have a Toshiba Laptop as well, and as soon as l make some money online, l will get an external 3tb Hard disk storage device!

Although l also have most of my data on my other computer as well.

Sounds like l should back up everything just to be safe.

Toshiba has a built-in restore function (thats why they don't ship with restore discs)

To do a factory reset, do this:

Hold down the power button for ten seconds to switch off your machine

Holding down the power button on the machine forces it to switch off. Any unsaved data will be lost.

Press and hold the zero key and at the same time, tap the power button once to switch on your notebook.

When the machine starts beeping, release the zero key.

When prompted by the warning screen, select Yes to continue with the system recovery

Select Recovery of Factory Default Software and click Next

Select Recover to out-of-box state and click Next again

Click Next to Start the recovery
As for how to keep the landscape document, sorry man.. no idea..

When you turn it on, while it's booting up, does holding the F8 button pull up a start up menu?

9 times out of ten, you OUGHT to be able to pull up dos and do something to back up the data.

That "restore" function, mentioned about toshiba, sounds IDIOTIC! SERIOUSLY! Outside of wanting to trash EVERYTHING to resell the computer, what good is it? The #1 reason to restore a system or backup is generally to get your USE back. The OS is, to an author, like a page of paper and a pencil lead. If the worst author on the planet lost their computer, do they REALLY want the paper and the pencil lead? NO WAY! It is virtually WORTHLESS, and they could go ANYWHERE and buy a replacement. NOPE, They want the software and data which, to them, is like their typewriter, books, and writing. I would HOPE that they don't wipe the disk and, at the VERY LEAST, save the data.
