I wasn't talking about you MMM.
I was talking about TL taking another jab at the republicans under the disguise of it being an article about the female anatomy.
The first two paragraphs and from number 7 to the end of the article is all about the republicans.
In other words this is just TL's way of trying to sneak in more of his political bullshit.

What completely confounds me is why one would even link to a such a post with such ignoramus myths listed.

Trust me, I've heard plenty of myths regarding females, their anatomy, and how it all works in my day while not only raising 2 daughters and a son, but while working in a school district with pre-teens and early teens.

I've heard some crazy notions, lol, but none as ludicrously outdated as these.

So is there an ulterior motive? Hmmm...or am I a conspiracy theorist? Hmmm...or do I just fail to see any point in discussing loony notions regarding the all mysterious female anatomy and it's functions? Hmmm...

Really, please, don't answer me, Lol!

        It's quite obvious.

That's because they weren't. Just another piss poor attempt by the lamestream to make it seem as if these people on the fringes are more prevalent than they actually are. I've seen more history re-written in the last several years for the sake of politics. Our poor children are not going to know what to believe.

I really doubt ANY of this was EVER believed! *****HOWEVER*****

    1. Women WERE claimed to not be able to properly understand some things. That was NEVER saying they couldn't learn!
    2. Menses WERE considered, and in many ways ARE, unclean! NOBODY should be near anothers exposed blood(of EITHER SEX), you are asking for trouble. SORRY if widely understood and scientific fact is displeasing. But yeah, many cultures isolated women during that time. Some still do.
    3. Hysteria DOES refer to the uterus! When cut out, the operation is called a HYSTERectomy. It was thought to be a reason for monthly changes, etc... AGAIN, partially true, and probably misunderstood or used to try to ridicule! By partially true, I mean that IT is maintained through changes that affect mood, etc....

BTW I have NEVER heard of a european culture cutting up females like that.

Steve - If you look closely you'll find the myths of women's lack of intelligence and cleanliness, etc....were the result of male opinions.

Which is why so many women think men are basically dumb as a stick.

Oh, I know. I didn't dispute THAT. And THEY probably knew BETTER. They may have done it to try to better keep the status quo. In a WAY that might have been good for society as a whole, but it did limit women's options.

HEY, some dumb scientist figured that parts of the brain are specialized in a SPECIFIC way that is LAW in species. FORGET that experience proves otherwise or that science ALSO says that females have a more equal distribution of mental ability(which the aforementioned law says is impossible). Anyway, they determined, based on the obviously wrong assumptions, that females are worse at math than males. Interesting, since 60% of those that impressed me mathematically were FEMALE!

Of course, many are equally wrong about males being inherently inferior in other ways, so I guess you can't assume such things based on gender.

BTW when I said unclean, it is a religious term. Sorry. 8-( I didn't mean to say it in that way. It doesn't mean that women are slovenly or often not clean, but during that time of the month. And, as you know, THAT isn't a myth.

    Michael,

You can't see the political garbage unless you read that article. Frankly, I doubt ANYTHING said there was true(I think they either exaggerated a belief, or the "myth" was totally made up.). If it were, we probably would have heard of it. "myth busters" for example, sad there was a myth that you could knock a persons socks off, or stop a bullet with your finger in the barrel of a gun. ONE is an OBVIOUS exaggeration, to say that something is more extreme than you could imagine. The other is for cartoons. NO, you will NOT recover from being flattened by a steam roller. And NO, you can NOT draw a door on a brick wall that you can go through. They aren't myths, but just animation methods to get a laugh.

Actually women were worshiped in early pagan religions. It wasn't until Christianity that we were vilianized. When new religions develop they often demonize the dieties of the previous beliefs.

Genital mutilation still goes on in some societies but those cultures are starting to get flack for it globally so things are changing.

Women can learn anything a man can. We were thought to have a bad sense of directions, but that was a cultural thing - women just didn't travel on their own as much. Pioneer women got around as well as any of the men. I never get lost really. Sometimes I don't know where I am but always know what direction I need to go to get somewhere. It ticks some guys off when I travel without maps. LOL.

There is a gland in the male brain that is believed to have evolved out of the female brain, but may have never been there. That gland is what makes it hard for men to be emotional and talk straight at the same time. Serious. That is why when women are so freaking upset, guys think they aren't capable of rational thought. Conversely, women can be extremely pissed off or extremely grief stricken and showing it emotionally - but can still think fairly clearly. That is why when a man calls a women hysterical, she is insulted. The fact is that he just can't comprehend thinking and feeling like that at the same time. This difference is most likely due to the natural female role as mothers. They have to be able to keep their crap coagulated in emergencies to take care of the cubs. Men didn't need to communicate to fight off beasts and intruders. Psycholinguistics 101.

As far as men feeling all sorts of odd things about menstruation -- how can we deride them for that. I don't know any women who are any too thrilled about it either.

ACTUALLY, even JUDIASM did that! They belittle women as far as women of today may be concerned, limited them, etc... ever see yentl? It is a jewish film with jewish actors, written by jewish people from a jewish producer. Yentl (1983) - IMDb The plot is that a woman tries to pass as a man so she could go to a religious school because women were not allowed.

Genital mutilation still goes on in some societies but those cultures are starting to get flack for it globally so things are changing.
The bible, judiasm, christianity, don't even WHISPER such things! Ironically, some recognized pagan religions, and some other religions and cultures do this.

The idea of separating groups and calling the other stupid goes on even today! USUALLY it has NOTHING to do with sex!

The only glands I have heard of in the brain are essentially IDENTICAL in both sexes. SURE, the timng might be a bit different, but that is driven by, and can maybe wholly be explained by, the sex organs. But all that is accepted fact by doctors and scientists. Men and women DO come from the same tissue, and much of the development is identical and much of the remainder is nearly so. There IS a section in the brain, but NOT a gland, that is larger in females, that handles emotion. But men have it ALSO. Ironically, though it seems to work AGAINST me, it is supposed to assist in learning!

As far as men feeling all sorts of odd things about menstruation -- how can we deride them for that. I don't know any women who are any too thrilled about it either.
The whole idea, and again it is in the jewish/christian bible, has been the idea of blood. Women try to take care of it, and I am sure other women don't like the idea either.

YEAH, I have heard some WEIRD things! Things that would blow people's minds, etc... Things from all over the planet, different cultures, etc.... I don't think I EVER heard of this! I HAVE heard "sane" people change tiny nothing things into weird things like this.

And listening to my mother, with advanced alzheimers, she took some simple things (That I PERSONALLY knew the full story about), and morphed them into something like it was out of the twilight zone in some other dimension of some weird parallel universe! HECK, look at what some detractors say is in the bible, and look for it! Compare some weird highly specialized "interpretation" of the bible and compare it to the actual book.

Ever hear of "the telephone game"? You get a large group, and tell one person a secret phrase. They keep going around the room. At the end, the final, and original, secret are revealed. It is wierd how they can morph! It relies on ONE thing though!!!!!!!!!

*****THE SECRET*****! If there is a way to see the source statement, the idea may NEVER change! So an obscure "MYTH" is more likely to be blown out of proportion than a REAL one. OHICSM!

The truth is - people say and believe what suits their core belief and their purposes.

Men have done it to keep women down - people do in politics all the time - society in form of public opinion dictates social "rights" at times.

There are always some thinking individuals who look at the "facts" and say "no, don't think so - makes no sense". Those thinkers are always a small minority.

Possible, but just before the Egyptians were the Summerians and I would not think that they would prescribe to that. In a culture that reveres the female (and most ancients did because women give birth), it would seem that the ability to pleasure women would be sanctified and an issue of social esteem, so I don't think they would. Chinese and Hindu were already getting a start during that period - I'm not sure what the evolutions of those cultures/religions is, I've never really studied either. If there were cultures that relied on war or domination of females they may have practiced such mutilation. A matriarchal society in which women were warriors may do so, giving the women more strength of concentration in battle.

Frankly I've never heard of Egyptians practicing this one, but they did practice slavery so it doesn't seem to off the charts to think they had done so. (without looking it up anyhow:rolleyes:)

I meant the Egyptians circumcised males. I've never seen any evidence it was also done to females. There are hieroglyphics that show males being circumcised though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History...e_circumcision

Actually, there is a more ancient people who practiced male circumcision (or genital mutilation if you prefer), the Australian Aborigines. As they had no contact with other cultures for close to 40,000 years, I've no idea why they started doing it.

Any possibilities it was a medical manifestation rather than a religious one? The foreskin makes a very virulent breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria and viruses. Ya think it might have been developed as a technique to stop something that was going around back then? Even if they did it for medical purposes they probably would have seen it as the hand of a god smacking men around for something -- probably a vengeful female god. Queen of Spades type bitch of a goddess.

Quite possibly it was done for medical/disease prevention reasons.

The Aboriginal peoples don't have anything we'd recognise as religious beliefs, they believe in spirits of nature rather than gods.

All I can ascertain is it was performed on boys on their thirteenth birthday as a "rite of passage". Why though is still a mystery.

Back in the Vietnam era, some of the Vietnamese women would hide a little contraption inside them that was made with razor blades. Not sure if they were defending against being victimized (rape) or were aggressively luring and ruining men, but the razor blades caused immense damage, as you can probably imagine. Now - how long was that practice in use? Who knows, but if it was for long enough, you can imagine that guys invading from foreign lands may get the idea that women of enemy cultures might just be a tad scary after a few such encounters got reported. The myth makes sense if you see that element as a possible cause.
