Go away, Isaac - enough already

Apparently Isaac wanted a Gulf Coast vacation - he won't move on.

My power is mostly on with brief off times - bands of wind and rain just keep sweeping through. I would have slept through the worst early this morning except Gracie got scared and tried to climb on top of me. 70 lbs of dog will tend to wake you up. She was terrified.

I have some limbs down but really glad I spent several hundred dollars a couple months ago to trim back big oak tree limbs hanging over the roof.

Internet access (cable) comes and goes.

    Stay safe Kay. (poor Gracie)

I guess people never get used to the onslaught even though it happens all the time to different degrees.

It must be a really great place to live otherwise to stay on through this year after year - so I guess each time all you can do is be thankful it eventually stops and that each time it wasn't worse.

Best of luck Kay and keep us updated. I lived in Tampa for 5 years, LOVED it but during that 5 year period we really didn't have anything come close to us. Geroges is the only one that comes to mind and if I recall we didn't even get much rain from him.

Since I've moved up here we get the remnants of about 1 a year, usually a lot of rain and not much else. We will probably feel some of that from Isaac but I haven't been tracking so I don't know.

Whatever you do DON'T BLOW AWAY!!

      Sorry to hear that Kay!

I do have to say though, that you seem to be the kind of lady that can weather any kind of storm and come out on top.

Keep you, yours and Gracie safe, chin up, and please keep us posted.

      Good luck to you Kay.
Yesterday on the news it was all about it being one year since Irene graced us with her presence here in the Northeast.

7 years for Katrina if memory serves

What is it with the weather reports - they have to relate every storm to every other storm. Big news here is this is the same date Katrina hit - but actually this one came in a day earlier (they conveniently ignore that as it doesn't help the big story:rolleyes

I remember Georges - it was my first hurricane - eye came right over my house but I wasn't there as I'd gone a few miles north. It was 8 hrs of blow and over - this one is one damned storm band after another. It seems in between storms people forget that each is different. With Isaac the danger lies in the effect this huge storm had on wave height and how much water it could push ashore.

I'm very lucky to still have power and internet access most of the time. There are thousands without power and that was my big concern.

Kay, glad to hear you are safe and not without extended power outages. Poor Gracie, at least she knew where to go, where she would be safe

Have you managed to avoid any flooding?

Like others, I'm trying to watch the news coverage. They seem to be focused on New Orleans and less so on surrounding areas that were affected.

Stay safe and keep us posted when you can.

Like everyone else - I hope it passes before you flood. If it starts to get bad - get out. I'm sure your son would love a visit from you.

It's been calmer for the past hour - light rain and trees aren't dancing all over like they were three hours ago....maybe for this area, it's ending.

This wasn't a horrible hurricane - just a very long one that refused to move on.

There were lessons learned in Katrina - this time the Red Cross ran a pet friendly shelter and the Humane Society of South MS ran a shelter where those people evacuating could safely leave their pets during the storm.

        That's a big improvement.

Glad your safe, Kay. Is it safe to go out yet? Have you checked for damage around your house? Hope it all turns out well for you.

I'm going to go for a walk in a bit - want to see if I'm still on an island or not

Fox and CNN both had stories this morning about damage in Jackson County, MS - that's my county. LA really took a hard hit with this one.

First thing I noticed when I woke this morning was the lack of wind noise. Still breezy but that's good as it blows the bugs away.
