I can't explain to myself how come I didn't knew about him until a month ago or so. Just...amazing songs. Here's one of my favorites:
  • That's nothing new - Van Morrison has been known to be speechless many times...usually when he is so hammered he can only slur and make rude hand gestures

I was just teasing...Van is Irish, and as such...has been known to imbibe a 'little Irish' from time to time...to time...

He's a great musician - many many great songs in the Morrison catalog...here is one of my favorites...

From what I have read though, he usually drinks a lot of coffee before a concert, and not booze. I know, it's hard to believe since he is Irish.

He may have tapered off to a mellow  he used to be one of the "old school" like Peter O'Toole and Richard Harris...I knew someone many years ago who had been one of his tour mgrs. - she thought he could put anybody under the table...

    Yeah, bit late indeed

I would suggest playing some of his songs with RainyMood.com: Rain makes everything better. in the background on low volume. Works wonders for relaxing and detaching.

A few weeks ago I was at a pub sitting at a table with 5 or 6 people aged under 35. Some of the people commented on the great music playing in the background - it was a collection Van Morrison's biggest hits.
However, not one of these people had ever heard of Van Morrison! I couldn't believe it.

You look pretty young going by your avatar. If so, there may be a lot of fine singer/songwriters from years past waiting for you to discover.

If you didn't know about Van, do you know about:

    Jim Croce
    Harry Chapin
    Gordon Lightfoot
    Dan Fogelberg
    Danny O'Keefe
    Cat Stevens
    Michael Martin Murphey
    Al Stewart
    John Hiatt

... to name but a few. Here's a sample of Hiatt:

Van Morrison - Days Like This - YouTube

I don't think he got the coverage he deserved. He's getting on now though!

    How would you promote him?

Have your say in this thread:

Um dude - Marion? How old are you?

EDIT - that might have sounded derrogatory and I didn't mean it to. I'm just wondering how young you have to be to have missed Van Morrison. It's a marvelous night.

I've heard of the name but never seen him or heard his music or took any notice. I think my brain automatically replaces Van Morssion to Van Halen

IMO, Van Morrison's legacy suffered alot because of how he treated his fans in the early days. Morrison would often show up for his concerts over an hour late, then only play for 20-30 minutes. Not the best way to treat your ticket-buying fans, and just the opposite of the way a band like the Grateful Dead would treat their fans.

The Grateful Dead has always fascinated me...this is one of the few bands who could genuinely claim "cult" status - yet had very few actual hits, and survives almost in whole by a band of roving stoner gypsies, ridin' that train (high on cocaine) who live for their shows...and they endure...

Yet some of those 'gypsies' are now captains of industry, with little 'GD skulls' on their ties...

The Dead did some things few other bands did...like letting their fans take pictures and record their concerts. The Dead figured that even if their fans recorded the concerts that they'd still buy tickets and albums, and they were correct.

The only other "band" I can think of that had the same cult status, with the same 20,000 fans following from city to city was Zappa. For both The Dead and Zappa you could be at a concert in Denver one night, Kansas City the next night, and the fans in both audiences would be the same people.
