What should I charge?

I have been writing articles for a while now and have been charging $5 what do you think I should be charging?

here are a few samples of my work. They are just excerpts from the original articles.

"Are you interested in performing tricks?

If so you should be buying a BMX bike. The best part about BMX bikes is that they are the most simple of bikes. When buying a BMX bike you will need to first look at the frame. The frame is what holds everything together and without it you wouldn't have a bike. There are several styles of Bike frames to choose from. Some frames are skinny and some are thicker. If you are not as strong you will want a skinnier frame to get started as it will be easier to perform tricks like a jump. But if you are someone who already does lots of physical activities like working out you could go with the heaver thicker type of frame. Next things to look at include the tires and rims. What would you prefer a smoother ride or more grip? Either way you will adapt to the type and get used to them over time. The rims are very important, you don't want to end up bending them or it becomes a nightmare to fix. If you bend your rims the bike will wobble instead of riding straight. So remember to pick strong double walled rims if this is important to you, although most bike shops will fix dented rims at a low cost to you.
"

That was an article about choosing bikes.

Here is another about surviving doomsday.

"You have been overrun by people looting for supply's, running though a narrow alleyway you frantically search for something to fight off the crowd. You completely forgot the supply's you needed back at your camp! You should have came prepared and now it was going to ruin everything! Always be prepared for doomsday, it could happen anytime and anywhere. And when the day hits you are going to need certain supply's to survive, make sure you are well prepared before the anarchy begins. Because there are sure to be plenty of panicking people, but you will already have everything needed to survive!

Food

The most obvious supplies required are food and water. Start stoking up all the foods that don't expire. For example, beans are a great food that can last many years and is easily obtainable in large quantities. Flour can be store for a long while as well and is therefore a great doomsday food. Although you will need somewhere to cook the flour and beans, one solution to this would be buying a great quantity of matches. You would then be able to light fires and hold pots or pans above them. It would also be wise to purchase some large holding tanks and store water in them, these wont last forever so you may want to build a well down in your basement or shelter for backup water. Both are vital to human survival so make sure you cover these supply's first.
"

So I just want to know what you would pay for my work and what I should charge to write 500 word articles of this quality.

I think you're right where you should be. Honestly, the articles are only fair, very basic. There are errors in them too. Supply's should be supplies. Should have came should be should have come. There are more. Keep at it though and you'll improve. Good luck.

I honestly think you should be thankful that you are getting $5 for those articles.

I'm sorry, please don't misunderstand me and think that I'm being mean or nasty, for that isn't my intention at all. I would really like to see you develop your writing skills and then read a new and improved version.

Not only do I agree with what Travlinguy has already said, but I'd also add the the content is highly underdeveloped. Each idea you brought up could be expounded on more and the flow from idea to idea should be a bit smoother, not quite so choppy.

If you were then able to add a story relating to an idea, or even have the boldness to put the information into story form or give an example of what your points can be compared to, you'd be infusing your pieces with a bit of personality and uniqueness that is uniquely, you. And that would help tremendously too.

As a writer myself, I agree with everything that has been said. If you have grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors in an article, that will automatically drop its value, let alone the actual content which isn't very good.
Keep writing and building your skills and you will be able to earn more money down the track. Stay positive and treat this thread as a learning curve for you. Good luck.

Just a cursory glance and I counted 96 grammatical errors.

Have you considered that maybe writing is not for you. Sorry, but sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind and it's a long hard road to better yourself to a standard where you can command decent rates.

Don't be too despondent. IM is a big ball park.

I think that $5 is pretty good for those articles. Keep on working on your writing skills to improve mistakes such as those that have been pointed out.
