OK - maybe not 'priceless'...:p and keep in mind art IS subjective...
but still, $26,690.01 is a tidy profit for a day at the thrift store...

I was just thinking the same thing about this case -- it would be cool if the woman gave a portion of the proceeds back to Goodwill. Not required, but it would be a nice step to take.

I had a similar experience recently. I also paint and am always looking for materials to use. Like the lady in the story, if I see a painting on canvas or a piece of work in a nice frame that is cheap I will take it and then paint over it or take the painting out and use the frame.

About a month ago I went to the flea market and it was kind of late. The sellers were already packing up and leaving and also leaving stuff behind. Well, I found a real nice frame with glass which had a lithograph as the art work. I thought I could at least use the frame, but decided to look up the artwork when I got home. Turns out the exact same piece was sold for $1200 twenty years ago and there only 20 editions! So, someone left behind a piece of artwork that I may be able to sell for 4 figures! It's not like finding a lost Van Gogh but it made my day.

  • @ Tim - That's a smart move - sometimes the frame is worth more than the canvas in it!

If you know what you're looking for, there can be some amazing finds - but all these new shows like 'storage wars' and the like, are upping the competition...I don't need that :p

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

You shouldn't have to pay too much to have someone take it away.

On a more serious note, I hope that lady gave her friend a nice reward. If not for her suggestion to check out the value she would have painted over it and had nothing but an odd looking rendition of a cat head to show for her investment.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.
