The US soda market is worth $76 billion, according to Beverage Digest. As your mom told you, these drinks provide no nutritional value, and you're better off drinking water.

We most certainly are the good consumers we've been trained to be. That was just a small piece of the list.

Who put those writers in charge of deciding what is a waste of money for all Americans?

Well, in the US, OFTEN, you either if to bring your own from home, IF YOU CAN, or settle for garbage like candy and soda. So it isn't like it is pure choice. Often it is options or habit developed by that. There are a lot of things I don't like about my current job, and this is certainly one of them. This is ALSO why "roach coaches"(Trucks that drive up to some businesses to provide food) do so well.

Did you know that one of the things that really got coke going was that THEIR drinks were provided in GI meals? The GIs got addicted, and it gave the rest of the world a chance to sample it, and THEY got addicted.

Yeah - the economy is bad because I drink Coke or eat an occasional chocolate bar. If we change our light bulbs, everything would be great again.

Happy to say that I'm a complete lightweight in every category mentioned. That couldn't have been by design, could it? It certainly isn't because the behavior police don't like it.

What was that saying about moderation?

Of course it took me most of my life to figure it out. Better late than never, I guess.
