It just amazes me how much turmoil people have to go through to get anything done right any more. In 85 I took on a school system that was strip searching kids for cigarettes - it took about two weeks to get a whole new school board and principles. Now it would be like forming a whole new country. Everything is just completely screwed and anyone with even a smidgen of power thinks that have to answer to nobody about anything.

If I had a school age kid today - they'd be schooling at home. I wouldn't let it near a public school institution.

We're definitely preparing different schooling options and strategies for our child in case things ever get ugly.

      I hear ya, Sal!

I was just wondering the other day how the whole world has gotten so bass ackwards in about 2 decades.

What kind of paradigm shift took place unnoticed under the majority of people's noses?

        Terra -

Sometimes I think we got so involved in protecting our "rights" to free speech, etc - we forget other people have rights, too.

This situation was resolved and the boy is back in his school. Now it's up to school parents to change the policies and not just forget about it.

You could be right. I also think that sometimes people just have a defeatist attitude and have just quit trying or caring, thinking their voice doesn't count. They need to allow the fight to rise up within them again.

          That's good news, Kay!

Let's just hope that the parents do indeed do something and do it now, rather than waiting for something else to happen before they decide to come together as one voice, realizing that there is power in numbers.

        Lets see

        - Parents are not allowed to discipline their own kids anymore

        - The nanny state has gone wild. We try and shield kids from everything in life and then when they reach a

certain age they are dropped in the deep end unprepared.

        - Mothers are not as home as much and out working fulltime instead. I guess that 4WD isnt going to pay itself.

        - Too many bad influences on TV, music, and a world overly obsessed with celebs

        - Thug rap music isn't doing is any favors

        - Political correctness gone mad. Men and women are exactly the same, we can't state any differences even if they are in our DNA.....

        - Too many rules in the wrong areas and all the trash is left uncensored

        - and maybe just maybe if victims where allowed to stand up for themselves, bullies might think twice about their actions.

I can't believe the amount of bullying going on in schools these days. And worst part is children standing up for their rights and beliefs are then being punished by the school! how does this make sense? When is it all going to stop? I am sick of hearing about students killing themselves simply because they can't take it anymore! enough is enough.

A lot of this stems from, imho, the 'zero tolerance' - or close to zero - policies that have sprung up everywhere, for just about everything. You're in a fight, you're gone, the circumstances don't matter. All it does is relieve the administrators (of which there are too many) of any requirement of having a clue. 'Those are the rules,' they can say.

School boards that have those kinds of policies in place need to be replaced. There's a reason for the old saying, "There are two sides to every story."

Don't even get me started on OTC drug rules in schools.

    Hello,
my 16 year old was kicked out of High school for a year and a half for just looking like a tough kid, I agreed as long as they paid for the home tutors.
He was able to get into a very select college after all of this.
