Who else is as obsessed as I am?

Currently only pierced, but here's what I've got.

Both lobes - 4g
Left nostril - 18g
Septum - 14g
Clavicles - 2 microdermals

Also had a few others in my ears, a second in the nostril, and my eyebrow. All those have been retired though for various reasons.

What do you have done?

3 holes in my left ear and around 15 tats.

Stef, I'm intrigued, what you got for tats?

I almost said it was a year old... then I thought about how long I've been stretching my ears and it's gotta be almost two.

My hair's a lot longer now and my ears have been stretched much bigger than in the picture. Plus I don't have actual rings in my nose anymore... not that you can see them! Just an itty bitty stud now so I can have my septum done.

I thought that having the piercings and longer hair would have put a cramp on working with small businesses (offline) but it really doesn't. It gives me that 'flair' that nobody else has. I like it

I don't even wanna guess where Star has his piercings. Eek.

No tattoos, will never ever get any. Only piercings in ears. I would get a nose stud but I'm too much of a big pain baby.

Never had any interest in permanent pictures or holes in myself. Some friends describing their various piercing locations made me go "yuck". Entirely too much information.

One woman told me she is "making a statement" - but I'll be damned if I know what she's trying to say. I guess I'm a stick in the mud as I don't see the attraction.

I've admired some tattoos yet admit I don't understand why people want to enlarge their ears or put holes all over themselves. But it's your body and to each his own.

The tattoo removal business will be booming in a few years - might be a good niche:p

Actually, Kay, the removal biz seems to be booming now. $200,000 of the last stimulus package went to a tattoo removal business in Hollyweird, CA. Half of that was used to buy a machine to do it.

Body piercing was actually rather popular in the 1700's. Looks like it's catching on again.

Sometimes the statement is "I'm an idiot".
Unfortunately both tattoos and piercings have become fashion statements.
All 3 of my ear holes and all my tats have meaning to me and mark different periods of my life. They are also reminders to me and different ones will give me different strengths when I need it. For example I have this one.

As you can see it's a parrot smoking a joint, giving the world the finger, with a pot leaf tail and a rebel flag around his neck.
Around Potty it says 'Live free or Die'.
Potty reminds me of what I believe in and who I am, plus he gives me the strength to continue living my life as I believe I should even though it places me in conflict with most of the rest of society and our wonderful government.

I will say though I loose it when I see a little boy with a pierced ear or a teenage boy or any male with both ears pierced like a girl.
But when I got my ear pierced the only males who did that where either bikers, sailors, or gay.
I did my first hole the day I got my Indian motocycle.
Did the second the day I joined the club and the third the day I left the club. I stopped wearing earrings when it became a fashion thing and didn't start again until I got my new bike and got back into my first club after a 30 year hiatus.

My next move with the tats will be tying them all in. When that's done I'll have both arms, my chest, and back totally covered.

This is how I used to feel about these things. Piercings not as much because, as you said, they are a fashion statement. I personally have mine simply because I love they way they look. I enjoy the whole process too, which, I admit, is a little weird... but I love getting pierced

As for tattoo's, these days I look at them more as art, which inherently has meaning behind it. Every tattoo has a story, and like any art, that story is always different. Some are deep and intricate and some are short and stuffy.

I don't have any tattoo's yet, but I'm working on a design for my first one now. The 'story' behind it is simply that it reminds me of me. I'm a geek, through and through. Technology is what I spend most of my time using and learning. Thus, I'm working on a schematic that will cover my left shoulder, left side of my chest, and halfway down my arm.

The idea is to have the symbols for specific parts that can relate to the workings of my body. For instance, a power source over my heart and motors over a joint. I love the idea, but suck at drawing schematics so I've gotta work on that.

Though all my tats have meaning to me they are also still art.
I like your idea for your first tat. If you have found a tattoo artist yet describe to them what you want and let them draw it up. A good one will go over the area you want it on and draw the stencil for your body.
When I get mine tied together I'll just go down to my 2 tat guys and give them the general idea. I know I want plants and vines and a couple of cut outs where gremlins are cutting my flesh to let the plants out of my body. From there I'll let them draw it up.

I don't want them myself but I see enough tattoos up close to see what a great difference there is in the work of some tatoo artists.

Just recently I was working my part time job and kept glancing at the tattoo on the arm of a man at the table. I finally just stopped the game and told him I wanted to see the rest of it - and he got a kick out of showing it to me.

It was amazing with all kinds of swirls and vines and graceful lines with images in it, too. The colors were dark and the lines very clean. It was one of the best I've seen.

Having seen a few tats on aging skin, I can understand the removal process popularity! When your hula dancer becomes pear-shaped, it just isn't the same.

my first tat I got in 74. It was a butterfly that had a skull wing pattern and was called the true deaths head. Now it just looks like a butterfly, sorta.
You can get them recolored to keep them fresh.
Like I said though mine are for me so if I ever care I will get those that need it redone.
I learned a little late that choosing colors is real important, some just work better with your skin color and type then others.

Tats are a great way to cover over scars, too. Many people are extremely self-conscious about scars (burns, cuts, birthmarks, etc.) that are plainly visible to everyone, such as on their arms, neck, face, and tats are a good way to turn them into something that looks better, and thus can be beneficial mentally.

Master the mind and you can master life.

I love tattoos but I'm such a big wuss that the process scares me. My hubby has one which consists of two hearts with each of our girls names in them. I just have my ears double pierced.

Tattoos: 20yr old girl gets a tattoo of an eagle on her breast. Many years pass by and going swimming with her grandkids they ask - "Why does grandma have a tattoo of big bird on her boob?"
