Do you use energy saving light bulbs?

In Australia, we have this big government program coming up where they're trying to install electricity monitors in everyone's houses - and they're providing people with water saving shower heads (if they need one), and replacing all their light bulbs with energy saving bulbs.

Also, a lot of the electricity companies have special deals where if you pay an extra fee every month, they will come out to your place and replace your light bulbs with energy saving ones.

I'm just wondering how many people in the world are using the energy saving bulbs.

They're catching on. I've got them everywhere. You guys have a lot of Solar incentives too, don't you?

Yeah, I think we should rename our country to Solaria

I think this programme is running all over the world.

My wife, in the UK, has been provided with enough low energy bulbs to last her the rest of her life.

Here, in Spain, they are available at very good prices and the giovernment has pledged to provide every household with two low energy bulbs.

I don't use them everywhere because they take too long to warm up and it is very infuriating if you need instant, high intendsity light.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

I want to buy some land out in the country and build a house with solar power. I have also been studying how to make hudrogen, and I believe that I could build some pretty cook hydrogen applications, including injecting hydrogen into my cars fuel line to make it cheaper to run. I don't think changing light bulbs is going to do much, but it's a good start.

We have had the low energy bulbs ever since they came to the UK.
Must have saved a small fortune on electricity and replacement bulbs
      over the years

Using cylindrical decorative frosted/etched glass shades not only
conceals the longer LE bulbs nicely ...but gives a major boost to
the actual light output, such that you can often change the
original say 18/20 watt bulbs for 11/15 watt ones giving yet
      further savings

The next evolution is using high efficiency LEDS which offer significantly
reduced power consumption and about 10 times the life compared with
current low energy ones ....but still costly per "bulb" presently.

I ahve a problem with the energy saving bulbs. They blow up. People say they last much longer, but I don't think they do. Maybe a little longer, but I am replacing them just as often as I would replace a regular lightbulb.

I live on the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia (moved here 2 months ago from Melbourne), and I nearly fell over when I found out they don't recycle up here. There's no recycle bin.

Down in Melbourne, everyone ahs 2 bins. One fro anything that can be recycled such as plastic, paper, cardboard, tins, cans, etc.. and another one for all the (what turns into) smelly slop.

Yup, I only use those energy efficient light bulbs now. Good bye to the old fashioned kind. I think pretty soon they won't even sell that kind.
