Planet Earth will survive. The life that's currently on it, not so much.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

Planet Earth, not so much either. I a couple of hundred millions of years the sun will start to die and Earth will be swallowed in a nova. So - if humans are still around, they will finally be able to have a "end of the world" theory that will work.

Actually - If I were around to see it survive another 50 years, I might be a tad ecstatic myself.

The grapevine says the brain lives for 3-8 minutes after a beheading...

as in your conscious that your head has just been cut off.

I would imagine 3 minutes or so of absolute panic and terror
would not be considered painless, much less quick.

Doubt it. Once your conker is chopped off, that's it. Adios amigo.

I think I have to side with Ken on this one. A beheading isn't a traumatic injury to the brain so I doubt it would be an instant death. The brain would have to die of oxygen deprivation and that would probably take a couple minutes. Gives me the creeps just thinking about it.

Actually, this was a big reason that guillotines stopped being used. There's enough blood in the human brain that sometimes the head can "live" for 20-30 seconds after decapitation.

It was very unnerving for spectators at executions seeing severed heads scream.

Lol, but they always had a crowd (at least in the movies).

That didn't deter France from chopping heads off till 1977. If Giscard d'Estaing had won the election in 1981, they would no doubt have continued chopping heads off till the late eighties.

Kurt, I have a lot of respect for you but I'm not going for this one. Screaming with no lungs to push air over the sliced open vocal cords. Mmmaybe not.

I would suspect that the person being beheaded is dead before the blade makes it all the way through the spine.

The "screaming" part was a bad joke. Not only having no air to scream, their larynx would also be cut.

However, it's true that some heads did "live" for a few seconds after they were cut off.

It's actually pretty creepy when you think about it. At least the human bodies don't run around like a chicken with its head cutt off...

Not according to Karl Pilkington. Watch from 17:30
How did this thread derail into a decapitation thread anyway?
