Interesting thread and a tough one. So far, I like Kurt's choice the best. A Beatles song would be in order for me, being from Liverpool and all... but that would be a bit cliche... hmmm... Have to think about this one.
Floyd's "time" springs to mind, I particulary the line: "hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way". I'm gonna go with Jimi's Woodstock impro. The reason, I always associated Jimi's music with death. Not in a suicidal way, but the sheer genius of his music always struck me as being from beyond. Don't know how to explain it, it was as if he was playing his stuff from a far, far place, breaking through to this reality with glimpses of his "home". He lived there. There is no other musician that does this for me, expect for maybe Bob Marley. Does this make any sense?

Oh, great, that brought back memories of my brother's wedding...it would be good song for my funeral too. I'll have to list that one, with instructions to find the most obnoxious choreographer around to coordinate a group dance. I like that! Thanks.

Funny you mention SRV. I just finished watching a documentary about him. Didn't realize he was so screwed up on coke and booze. I also didn't realize he played on Bowies's "Let's Dance". You'd think I'd know this stuff. I've only been listening to him for about 20 years.

Yeah...SRV was with Bowie making $400 a week, then decided he'd be better off on his own.

There's a 50/50 chance I was at the concert with SRV and Beck playing Going Down. They only played two shows, one in NYC and the other in LA and I was at the LA concert.

AFter the concert, Guitar Magazine asked SRV what it was like playing with JB and SRV replied, "It was intimidating". SRV's girlfriend said, "But in a good way?"...and SRV replied, "not really".

The sad part about SRV's death is he was sober for about 6 months before the helicopter crash and really seemed to be on the way to getting his life together.

JB, Hendrix, SRV and Johnny Winter are my all-time favorites. Hendrix, SRV and JW seem to "channel" when they are jamming. Notes just flow from them.

I don't have anything in mind, but I do hope it's a semi-jolly choice, after all, it's a celebration of death, which is a natural part of life, isn't it?

Too bad where I'm from playing music at funerals is not a common thing, perhaps I should die in some place else?

I used the word funeral generically.
I was meaning more in the idea of Party/Celebration/memorial service or whatever term you want to use.

As far as being buried or cremated,I haven't made up my mind on that one yet.

I have thought that through, yes. Actually, I wrote out all the details for what I want in regards to my funeral a few years back. There are three songs on my list:
