I would like to hear what web hosting service have you setup your domain/s with? I came across the following ones and still deciding which one to go with after I read your opinions:

1. Rochen
2. HostGator
3. Lunarpages
4. A Small Orange
4. StableHost
5. An Hosting
6. FatCow

I would like to hear your opinions before I make the final decision. I am also looking at things like heaps of support, reliability, a host that has no down times with a stable database setup, and filtering services like CSF or SpamAssassin, etc.

Thanks in advance.

    Hostgator.

    They have killer support...

Plus I haven't heard of the other hosting companies you've mentioned in your thread.

    Hope this helps...

Well, that's the problem everyone gets stuck with the same hosting services leading to monopoly and then problems start. Host Gator, Blue Host, IPowerweb, 1 & 1, etc are to commonly used and some of them even charge for freely available open source platforms such as phpnuke, joomla, gallery, etc.; including issues like awful server uptime and speed.

Not saying that Host Gator are bad (however, their pricing is not competitive for what they offer), but like to hear from different options.

      Cheers.

        I agree with you, Baguadude...

But, the old adage applies here...

        1) You get what you pay for.

I was with a free hosting company for a while. And this hosting company is very popular. It is called 000webhost.com. Never paid a dime in hosting.

The problem happened when I wanted to add domains to the hosting plan. I kept getting error messages. I emailed the admins...sent support tickets...everything.

        No response.

I switched my hosting plan over to Hostgator. Had a coupon for a 1 month special for 1 cent. I took advantage of it to test them out.

Hostgator's support chat is always online. I bet if you go to their site now you will see that a live support specialist can help you...and it's 2am here where I'm located.

I pay $10 a month in hosting. I have never looked back since.

        2) Deal with reputable companies.

This one is a no brainer. I'm sure everyone that wants to do business would rather do it with a reputable company as opposed to a new company that may not be in existence tomorrow.

Why do you think McDonald's, Microsoft, Google, etc. are so big?

Because they have proven themselves to the market.

        Hope this helps.

Good luck in your search for a hosting provider.

Plese explain why you feel Hostgator pricing is not competitive.

I think there are a couple of threads on this topic; my own take is Hostgator; reasons as above. But I'm also trying out D9 hosting, based in the UK. So far, looks promising. Take a look.

I have used several in my time but I find Hostgator to be the top choice.
If you have any problems they have a 24-7 service to assist you either via phone calling (but you have to be a US resident) or via e-mails and you get them to reply pretty damn quick.
Every now and again they give great deals on hosting packages for the first month or so and that enables you to try them out and see if they deliver the goods.

Very nice. I like their plans:

      Host Excellence

I also see that they offer a "Free Shared SSL Certificate." Is this for real?

Thanks for that. I will put them first on my list.

      Cheers.

Netfirms. Been with them for nearly 10 years (in July). You can manage all your domains within your cpanel, and they have lots of free scripts with superb online and phone tech support. I tried many of the others, but always ended switching all domains to one account.

Anything they claim is for real. This is an award winning host. The only other one I would consider with any seriousness is Servage. Servage is slightly more expensive.

I have been with Servage Hosting - One Solution for years ....think I probably
introduced Sal and Indy to Servage. Mind you, I am customer 293 and
servage now has around 180,000 customers. Has an awful lot of power
and capabilities for the more technical user.

Finally, a dedicated (usually paidfor) SSL cert for your domain is far
more trustworthy to customers and others than a free shared SSL.
Clustered redundant hosting is also far preferable to even a dedicated
          single box server.

Free hosting with unlimited webspace and/or bandwidth can never
be completely relied upon. I actually get what I pay for ... and its
not much money for peace of mind!

Because HostGator doesn't offer stuff some of their competitors do, like for example free SSL encryption.

      Another thing,

Which plan do you recommend me to start with as an affiliate marketer?

I need to know some stats:

      1. Web Space
      2. Bandwidth

      Thanks again!

I think mentioning one item and saying that makes them not competitive is not a realistic comparason.

If your worried about SSL, go with namecheap, there you get it free.

I use 1&1 as at the time it was a stopgap as I develop my network of websites. Ready to move to my dedicated server once I buy a larger HDD.

1&1 are very strange. Their billing is very annoying, its hard to cancel a contract and hide the link to do so. They have some problem with their .htaccess that makes using mod_rewrite difficult at times. They are very tight for the price you pay, and the amount of MYSQL Databases they provide.
Id highly not recomend 1&1, unless for a small personal website.

    I use hostgator.

One time I installed a script just to test it that took too many resources and they asked me to remove it which really wasn't a big deal.

Another time my credit card expired and I wasn't paying attention and they allowed the service to stay on even though it was like 21 days overdue which to me was pretty cool.
