The next heir to the throne is on its way. Rule Britannia, I say wot! etc, etc.
Congrats to the happy couple!

New baby will be 3rd in line to the throne.

Speculating on what pregnant Kate Middleton will name royal baby

Yeah lovely news for them for sure and congrats to them.

It's more then just third in line to the throne though, He or she will one day be head of the armed forces, supreme governor of the Church of England, head of state of the UK and, subject to approval by the Commonwealth, 15 other countries.

    Not too shabby hey!

She probably won't be feeling too hot either, just at the moment: she's in the hospital: BBC News - Royal baby: William leaves Kate hospital

Yes, I find it quite difficult to be too interested, I must say. She was bound to be pregnant some time soon, really? Still the baby's going to be third-in-line to the British throne, and actually succeed to it, barring accidents, which you can kind of understand people being interested in, a little?

This baby will come to the world to spend the money British people pay on taxes, yet many British feel happy for the news?

Yeah, like one baby will make a hole in the budget...

What I appreciate about Britons is that they respect and love the Royal Family, and that it is seen with good eyes - they hold on to their traditions, which is admirable.

Is holding onto traditions always admirable?

And your point is...? (BTW, I didn't say that, I just said that I like how British people respect the Royal Family.)

I merely quoted you: "they hold on to their traditions, which is admirable."

My point is that the world has had many traditions over the centuries and if none were ever discarded there would be no evolution.

Yes, through affection, tradition, respect and financially, too: the country maintains the Royal Family at a profit - they earn far more for the country than the country spends on them via their small "civil list" payments. By law, the Queen doesn't have to pay income tax on any of her income, but for many years has chosen to do so, voluntarily. In purely commercial terms (apart from all the other, much more important aspects) they're a very good profit-maker.

And that, of course. But complainers (not accusing you, Alex) tend to look only at the costs, and forget the immense benefits the Royal Family brings in. I don't know to be honest, but I think they act more as "diplomatic relationship builders and maintainers" with other countries, which of course means more economic privileges when it comes down to business between governments.

Congratulations Kate, lets hope that you don't befall an unfortunate 'accident' once you have an heir and a spare.

As if that could ever happen.

All well and good for you in Aussie; this new addition will be yet another leach, draining money from the British taxpayers.

Wow - sure is a lot of real negativity over this one. For one thing - the woman is SICK. She's in the hospital and that baby might just not even make it.

If Brits love their royalty - I don't find that disturbing. Since Brits have a royalty - I am glad if most of them like that family. It's a shame when people hate their leaders and yet are stuck with them.

While I have no real vested interest - the couple seems in love and I wish them all the best.
