Biz Domains Blacklisted???

I was in a web conference Saturday and some people said, and others confirmed, that all .biz domains are on some kind of blacklist.

Anybody know anything about this? Why? Where? What to do?

Doesn't seem fair especially since they are still selling them...

Well my dear Host did some research - it is "just" for email - biz is seen by spam filters/spam police as more likely to be spam than other domains.

It is also supposed to be sold much cheaper than dot com etc due to this - however I haven't seen that to be the case.

Still like to hear any comments....

They must do a good job blocking them.
All the spam I get comes from .com's or AOL

Yea, Thom, go figure, same here and Yahoo - then when you report it they say 'this is not really a Yahoo customer'... So the real clever creeps are untouchable...

      Yep forgot Yahoo.
I remember the first one I got that had my earthlink email addy as the sender.
I sent it to earthlink and they replied that it wasn't sent from that address, do ya think?

    hello, earth to earthlink. lol.

yes well i have heard that a spammer can use your address as a 'zombie' - now I know there is a way to trace that back if Yahoo had a clue - that is unless they are using a proxy server like anonymouse -

do you know there are really professional people who do 'reverse marketing' and send stuff back to spammers? yeh think of the thousands of leads - however i would rather collect food stamps than ever ever ever give a spammer the time of day - let alone be associated with them in any business.

... then again marketing is not my strong suit - still - yet...

I recently had comcast block my mail client, sayiing they had gotten complaints about me spamming.
When I called them on it, they asked me if I had been sending out a lot of mail, and I said no.
But they said the "powers that be" in the Internet world had deduced I either had been spamming or that someone had gotten my email addy from someone and had spoofed my name and IP.
I suggested that they check their servers to see if there had been any such activity from me. They told me no, they wouldnt check it.
They then proceeded to tell me how to get around they block they put on my email.
    Isn't that wonderful?

By the way, I only own one dot.biz domain.

hmph. comcrap. they are my isp but because in my business they block so much mail to our members, i do not use their email client figuring what is the point.

they should have stuck to cable tv.

You can check out the black list etc here:

    URIBL.COM - Realtime URI Blacklist
    SURBL+ Checker v1.1

I am mad about the dot biz thing - i have a few i just use for redirects but JUST bought one a week before I heard this and now I hesitate to use it as it is for an autoresponder affiliate portal....

I may not have been clear in my previous post.
I do not send out any business mail through comcrap.
I either use my Gmail account or an email account on the domain itself.
I'm with you though Patrician, they should do one thing and stick with it.
If Verizon ever gets their FIOS in my area, I'm switching over ASAP.

well verizon are big time blockers too. i love verizon and have their cell phone - just for an emergency - it lives in my purse - and they carry me for only $12.59 a month (which is unheard of) but which means if i call further than the corner it is about 36 cents a second. but like i said if i was locked in a car trunk somewhere i wouldn't mind.

I use about 10 Gmail accounts and recommend every person that bitches at me about not receiving a response to get a Gmail account. They do not block and they are really excellent at segregating the spam in a convenient place (once in a while a good mail gets in there or vice versa but it is a tiny percent of the time.

I never liked the mail client on my domains. For one thing on incoming there is no 3rd party security like with an ISP or web based email - and i never figured the pop3 part out.

I know you can set up an alias and forward the mail to a mail client that does have protection, however my main domains get trillions of spam because we stupidly used to have the adress on the site. The spambots had all you can eat night - so i literally just have it all deleted on the server.

Your domain address however is the most professional address to use.
