What Do You Do On Your Birthday?

Well, today is my birthday. No special landmark but another year older and I decided to take a day off from working for myself and go and see a movie. When they swiped my membership card, they said I had a free ticket so I saved $15.50.

Later, when I was shopping, I got to the register and discovered they had a deal where you spend $50 or more and get $10 off. So I saved $25.50 although that was not my intention when I went out.

Whether it's fate, karma or just luck, who knows - but when good things happen, I just enjoy them.

Thanks to the "miracle" of the internet and Facebook, I had a ton of birthday wishes messages from various friends and family from within Australia and overseas as well. It's nice to know that people do care enough to send a simple message.

So how do you spend your birthday? Alone? With friends? With family? Or do you work on your birthday? I would love to hear your responses.

Happy Birthday mate! I agree that it is nice to get birthday messages from all around the world. Gives you a bit of a lift to know that people care.

But I don't usually do too much for my birthday. It doesn't mean that much to me anymore. Most years I would rather forget about it as it is also the anniversary of my Mother's death. She passed away on my birthday in 2007.

    Thanks Lynette,

I am sorry that your birthday holds bad memories. Maybe it is a good time to reflect on all he good she did in the world and in your life.

    Hi Sal,

It is my 49th birthday. I don't plan things until the day before usually. But I do like to do something small. Makes me feel good. So thanks for the kind words.

      Happy Birthday Laurence!

You should do what I do on my birthday, it is heavenly!

Spend just one hour getting a full body massage...Ahhhh!

Thanks for your kind words Terra. I frequently have full body massages but they are remedial as I have a lot of medical issues with my neck, head, shoulders and back.
In fact I am having one later today (the day after my birthday) to ease the pain.

But you are right n saying a relaxation massage is sheer bliss. Unfortunately it doesn't do much for me anymore.

Hmmm, l had one of those last week!!!

Went to Southbank in Melbourne, and after spending a good half an hour trying to find an eating place, with tolerable prices, we, (my brother, and Mother) sat outside and enjoyed the Yarra River, and a pretty good meal!

Hmmmm, the Sparrows, were good as well, they are getting so cheeky, they are almost grabbing the food off the plate!!!

And then we had a look around the shops, and made our way, (Mother and me, my brother had to leave early) up to a very nice, but posh restaurant in the Crown Casino!

PS the Christmas spectacular is crap! It was just "A partridge in a Pear Tree, jazz version" with mechanical animals projected into large red globes! Serious boring, but very young kids might like it???

We were going to have something there, but $75 per head for a buffet, was a bit too much!

I will certainly go back there, to celebrate my online success, but it is still a work in progress!

Then l showed my Mother the second last Block, (TV Series in AU) location, and that was it! A good day, all things considered.

As for the pressies, l just got money, which l put about $42 into 4 Gigs for my Laptop! :p

Hope that you have a good one!

      All the best.

    Hi Shane,

Thanks for your kind words. I am also in Melbourne so I know what anything to do with the Casino and Southbank is with regards to expensive prices. I avoid that area like the plague.

I am glad you had a great day overall though It is nice to do something different.

Hmmm, well we seem to do the same thing, or this on my Birthday, every year, but it is still a good day out!

And it is getting a bit on the expensive side, since my family are shouting!

The Crown used to be $10 all day, now it is $23 for the first 6 or 7 hours, then it gets progressively worse after that! My Mother shouted, but wasn't happy about it!

Hmmm, next year l may have to try something different!!!

      Thanks laurence!

Happy Birthday, Laurence. I don't do anything particularly special these days. Maybe go out to eat a nice meal.

6 or 7 years ago I spent my birthday in the ER of a hospital having a stroke. Not my favorite birthday. Don't do that.

    PS. Happy Birthday!

    Happy Birthday Laurence!!

Since my bd is Dec. 22nd and the world is ending on the 21st I guess I won't do much this year.

However, on the slim chance we're still here on the 22nd then I will start my long drive to Texas for the holidays.

Lynette, I do understand what you're feeling. My dad passed away two years ago the day before my birthday. It does make it a bitter sweet time of year. But he was a wonderful, kind man and I try to just think of what an impact he made on my life and so many others.

@Kurt. I am sorry that happened to you but you are still here so maybe your birthday was lucky. and thanks for the best wishes.

@ Rose. I don't believe all that Mayan BS. You have the right attitude on all fronts and I wish you happy birthday in advance as you will be on the road driving. Safe trip too.

My birthday will be all about things like toy trains, kids songs, children's books. No, I'm not losing my mind. It's the same date as my toddler's birthday
