Down to the Banana Republics,
down to the tropical sun
Go the expatriated Americans,
hopin' to find some fun
Some of them go for the sailing,
caught by the lure of the sea
Tryin' to find what is ailing,
livin' in the land of the free

So have you started your expatriat life yet Joe? I'm thinking of doing the same thing but am not sure when. I know people who have done it and love the life style. I also have a 24 year old friend who just left to travel South America for a year doing what is called Woofing which is working on farms in exchange for room and board. She's doing it alone! Plus, I have an ex gf who recently spent several months in India with her 12 year old son, on a shoestring budget.

No Tim, I haven't but thanks for asking. I should begin to visit my short-list countries the first part of next year.

I've heard about Woofing and sounds pretty cool for the right person. I would be totally not-surprised if Sal posted a thread about her Woofing and looking for gems in some faraway land.

One of the things I'm beginning to realize is that this exercise has a pretty low commitment requirement. You do a little research. You come up with a couple of places to test-drive. Establish some i-relationships. You go for an extended stay. You come back. You liked it or you didn't.

Tweak as needed and do it again.

Let me encourage you to push forward if this interest you.

      Regards,

      Joe Mobley

Yep. That's the way I look at it also. Just go and see what happens and either stay or move on. I hope you keep us all posted when you do start. My ex used matador network to write about her experiences. Here's her blog posts if you are interested. She's an excellent writer in my opinion:

    Go for it Tim!
Don't go to your grave with any regrets.
    Just ask yourself;
"What's the worst that can happen?"
If it's not death, then get on with it.
Have you ever read "The 4 hour Work Week"?

I do have regrets. Those who say they don't are either lying or extremely fortunate. That's why I am really focusing on my art for the first time since I was 19. Traveling the world is #2 on my list of things to do and it will come.

I am halfway through 4 Hour Work week. My ex gf who went to India gave it to me and it is definitely inspiring. She is also very inspiring as someone who went to India a couple times by herself for many months at a time.
