What Computer Do You Use For IM?

I'm kind of curious to see what everyone here is using.

I started out with an Emachine ET1331G-03W which I bought (2-3 years ago) and then quickly realized that pre-purchased computers have cheap/barely get by hardware in them.

Since then I've nearly gutted everything in it including the memory, GPU, PSU and a whole bunch of other stuff.

I use it for gaming (well, I used to game) and for IM. I can have Photoshop/Dreamweaver and about a billion other programs open (I've tried to max it out on memory) and run just fine.

What specs/computers do you use for any of your IM practices or purposes out of curiosity?

My Specs:
Memory: 8GB
CPU: AMD Athlon 3.2GHz
Windows 7 (You will not get me to upgrade to Windows 8...)
No idea what the fan is, bought it two years ago
ATI Radeon 5k series for graphics (I only played World of Warcraft, didn't want to go to extreme just for desktop viewing pleasure)
HD: 750GB

Thought about custom building/upgrading but I don't run anything extremely heavy, do enough video production or gaming anymore to really need anything more. When the need arrives, i'll build a custom one (a monster one at that) from scratch.

MSI laptop, i7 2.3GHz 12Gb ram, 1TB raid0 HDD's, dedicated video card GTX 670M w/3GB memory, win 7 64bit. matte monitor that don't reflect as much as a normal glossy monitor

and an external monitor when screen real estate is needed, pretty much anytime I am at my desk.

I agree with not upgrading to windows 8. It seems to be made for tablets, and is clunky to get anywhere. I will be sticking with windows 7 on this.

This laptop will do anything I need.

I just use an HP Laptop. Same one I use for gaming because I chopped the hell out of It and upgraded It :p

The external graphics card looks really bad sitting next to It though lol. So many wires.

Hmmm, my main workhourse these days is my Toshiba, i3 (upgraded ram last week from 2 gig to 4) Laptop! 320 gig hard disk with W7!

Runs well now, hardly ever sputters, and l can run a few app,s without it stalling in an irritating way!

I also have an old PC, with 2 gig of Ram, W-XP, 180 hard disk, Pentium 4 chipset, CRT second hand monitor. And eventhough the memory is almost full, it is a good backup computer.

My dream PC, will likely have quad core i7,s, as much ram as it can handle, (lets say 8 gig) and 3TB of storage, with a 3T backup external drive as well!

And of course one large LCD monitor, and maybe one or two more!!! :p

      Yep, one day!

:p. But as others have shown, you can set up an internet empire with a decent Laptop and of course long hours!

I currently am using an emachines desktop I bought back in 2008 at walmart. I did have an lcd screen but it went out and am currently using an old crt with the emachine pc.

Haven't gotten around to getting me a new lcd as I have around 30 CRT monitors I picked up beside the town dumpster. lol

Off topic. Just now as I was typing this. I thought the wind was gonna push my mobile home over. It's anchored down, but still It felt like it tipped over a bit and then came back up. lol That was a bit scary. Were having some high winds and some snow.

Gonna have to check the anchors on it tomorrow. That is if the house is still standing upright. xd
