Yeah Dave - I get it - and I've gotten it for a long, long time. Pretty frustrating...

I had seen pictures at least a year ago of the various places where they leave all the empty containers. There are like enough at one airport they showed that you could build a small town.

... and that was the suggestion on what to do with them - build a city for homeless people - that way after they lose their jobs because of imports they will know where to go.

See it all works out. (not)

They actually FORGOT to say a few things!

    1. China is LITERALLY exporting their GARBAGE to us, which kills and disables kids, etc.... HONEY that isn't honey, baby toys with lead. Pet food, and proten meant for HUMANS that has lead, cadmium, and other poisons. Those are REAL examples folks, not made up.
    2. Walmart ALSO has stores in CHINA! You KNOW the stuff is CHEAPER THERE!
    3. OBVIOUSLY, walmart sells few american goods since, if they did, they would ship them back to china on their own ships to save expenses!
    4. China copies and freely competes with american brands giving them a worse reputation while they may even get PAID to make items thy sell dirt cheap compared to what people are led to believe they are.

      Xenophobia rules

At least I have been to China and lived there.

I ate honey and survived, but never ate ant lead toys so i cannot confirm and deny

You forgot to add there are worker representatives at walmart in China. I have been to walmart in China, just another supermarket, but i do wonder why all the workers are forced to have foreign names on their badges. The vast majority do not speak english, but they do not need to as there are another 1.3 billion that speak Chinese

go visit, you may be pleasantly surprised, otherwise just believe everything you read in time magazine. Me, I will stick to China Daily

XENOPHOBIA is irrational fear of foreigners. I never said the honey would kill you OR that they give chinese fake honey. I said chinese are shipping fake honey to the US. Will it kill you? Probably not, but it won't be real honey!

LEAD won't really kill you either. OK, EVENTUALLY, it may. But it can certainly HURT people.

As for the people that work in walmart? As I recall, a rather high ranking guy there is AMERICAN! SO WHAT?

As for xenophobia? My main coworker on my last project was chinese! And I do OK around all the indians.

Bullets are made to be cheap and to deform, and the desire to make them harmless simply isn't there. WHAT is your point? BULLETS usually kill because they EXIST, and NOT because of what they are made of. Of course, even if the mateial WERE toxic, and lead IS PROVEN to have that potential to a degree, they try to remove it ASAP! Of course, with an adult, the effect is not so pronounced.

If you want to get a major clue about what is definitely not "Xenophobia" before you say something ignorant:

Take a look at all the industries that used to employ Americans and people from all over the world who come here. All the industries are shut down - the jobs are gone - they are off-shored and outsourced.

Then take a look at all the little people put out of business ('mom and pop' stores) because of Walmart.

Then you take a look at the fact that the very stuff we import and Walmart sells so cheap undercuts the price of anything we make here so you have all the herds of sheep (and albeit people who can no longer afford quality merchandise) flocking to all the imported JUNK.

Now I will mention the fact that they have 'SWEETHEART' deals where they do not pay the same duty as we and all the other countries do. So they do that for less too.

The fact is that we owe China all kinds of money and if it wasn't for them being the only ones with the cash, I don't know how much we could do here with a deficit from spending money we are no longer generating.

I also note that they are not spending $9 million a day to fight wars like we are constantly.

This is not to say I do not have the highest respect for China, the Chinese people, and even the People's Republic of China. They are an ancient and very wise and gentle race of people (and we have millions of our own here).

We could learn a lot from our Chinese brother - but we could do without the imports and the really crappy quality of things made cheaply AND THE SUBSEQUENT UNEMPLOYMENT.

So Mr. Snark, you are totally off-base and have a cavalier attitude that belies nothing but predjudice and ignorance. (this is not the first time you have insulted someone with your remarks). You have no empathy because you think you know it all.

    You don't know Jack.

        1. Outsourcing USED to mean going to local companies to get expertise you didn't have!

NOW, they have TWO other meanings!

        2. Going OFF SHORE, to foreign companies!
        3. Having foreigners even hired within the company, and used there.

NOBODY has really complained about the first. EVERY company does that to a degree. Companies like maersk, UPS, FEDEX, DELCO, etc... exist SOLELY because of it. EVEN in cases where they NEEDED help for obscure things, 2 and 3 don't lead to contraversy.

TODAY, 2 and 3 are used OFTEN and simply to cut costs. THAT is a SEVERE problem!

When I started with this job, about 11 years ago, my industry seemed almost 100% AMERICAN! TODAY, it is between 2-20% American. Look at the last dozen companies I have worked at, and almost EVERYONE is INDIAN!!!!!!!!! It is hard to believe that ALL those companies were in the US! Places like california, NY, NJ, etc...

    Pat,

You are right in that a lot of good and wisdom has come from china. HECK, I could say the same about MANY places. But the chinese HAVE fallen prey to an oligarchy in the name of communism, and some of the better are likely constrained by the worse, and the average ones are also not as well off as they could be. Regardless, somehow, some manage to get filthy rich.

As for the worker I spoke about earlier? He SEEMED like a nice guy. Surprisingly, he said the average chinese person thinks HIGHLY of americans. I WISH we were that good! And he felt Tibet was CHINA, and the monks were in the wrong. He felt Taiwan was china and AGAIN, THEY were wrong. He credits his being an upstanding Chinese citzen with them allowing him to travel and share in the riches of Canada and the US. He also has TWO kids, and didn't have to pay licensing fees. he's been here for at least the better art of a decade, so I doubt he will go back to stay.

And they say the US is bad with the poor. From all I have seen, the poor in china have it harder.

STEVE - I HAVE HAD EAST INDIANS EVERYWHERE In CORPORATE BANKING TECHNICAL AND OPERATIONS - for 15 years (6 years ago) and I love them - they are often in a technical supervisory role

all the guys at the convenience stores where i live are Indian - and I really like them - not just that - their music is among my top favorite genres since the 1960s - east indian classical. They are beautiful - -their whole culture/ART -- I have even read the Upanishads and many other spiritual authors that are East Indian. Sanskrit and Hindi

and though I have one hell of a time understanding them i know they are quite bright and friendly. they do try to speaka da englisha. (the guys at the storesa)

p.s. the poor Chinese guy you mention above is highly indoctrinated.

p.s.s. please do not comment on this next statement - i do not want to start a religious discussion here. but after over 20 years of bible study (several different versions) i have arrived at Watchman Nee and Witness Lee - the "Recovery Version" of the New Testament. and it is mindblowing.

(this is related to the Quakers) = as close as i come to copping to a denomination - never been to a 'meeting') (what they call 'church'). (sorta like the laymans home missionary society) (not just home business but homebibleandchurch)! hehehe

*Watchman Nee died in a Communist Chinese Prison (he did 15 years or so) for being a Christian - but he still got the word out to Witness Lee who ran with it for many years and he ran all the way to Anaheim, California before he PASSED. They are Enlightened Christians and I thank God for them.

I used to work at Disneyland. I was in merchandise. Every single item we sold had a "made in China" sticker on the bottom, on the tag, or somewhere else. They provide us with our goods. Clothing, electronics, cars, food, the list goes on.

They also float our government by "investing" in our country. What the **** are we going to do when they come to collect? Sorry for the foul language buts its a very real question that maybe I won't have to answer... but a question my little nephew probably will.

As for the OP... what exactly are we supposed to send back to them? Our countries RENT payment?

The US used to be AT LEAST on a par with almost EVERYTHING, and a leader in MOST! Whether agriculture. technology, gas, radios, TVs, computers etc.... I'm sure that at one point nearly everything in disneyland was made in the US! Gradually, things moved off shore. Today, even a lot of food may come from asia! WHAT company may have been the first to make a great calculator? Was it HP or TI? TWO AMERICAN companies! Cpus? Do yu want to talk INTEL or MOTOROLA? TWO AMERICAN companies! COMPUTERS? IBM, DEC, APPLE? ALL THREE AMERICAN! Cars? FORD, GM, CRYSLER? HECK, what about GAS? One day a guy woke up ECSTATIC because he found a WASTE product of his was now VALUABLE! It was GAS! That company became GIGANTIC, and the US goverment decided it was DANGEROUS, so they split it up. EACH resulting company was HUGE! Last I checked, a few years ago, at LEAST three still exist and are formidable. But let's alk about ONE! At one point, it was the most valuable on the NYSE for a LONG time. It's current name? EXXON! And what of ANOTHER such company that got split up. One of the few companies there to have it's original name was AT&T! Don't think it hasn't had a world impact!

The US is NOTHING like it was even a few short decades ago!

BTW do you know WHY intel made a CPU? They were TIRED of companies from places like JAPAN asking them to make custom calculator chips. The 4004 was in response to a JAPANESE calculator company request!

It is supposed to go export and import - not just import - what we should be sending back to them are goods manufactured in America - used to be known as exports. hey even @ half price?

I think I remember the concept of 'fair trade' from a past life?

This should be a separate issue from the Bank of China and its debtor nation, the USA, just to be fair.

I know it is strictly tin foil thinking but ever hear the one about the one who has ALL THE MARBLES? We are now theoretically KowTowing to them (sweetheart deals duty free) but at least it isn't the goose step yet.

United Sino of America - USA

Next Act in the Soap is Whose the only one with money to buy oil?

Whoever it is has ALLLLLLL the marbles.

... and the encore is whose got the military resources, while ours are completely expended and they are needed at home for what used to be called a border. but that wouldn't be politically correct now would it? Guess we will just have to keep rolling over.
