For Christmas Birthday Boy Jimmy Buffett, Who Needs Record Sales To Be Worth $400 Million? | Stop The Presses! (NEW) - Yahoo! Music
Jimmy Buffett was born on Christmas day, 65 years ago. Or, as he once put it in the liner notes for a holiday album he released back in 1996, he is “the Christmas war baby turned island boy born on the day W.C. Fields died.”

But when it comes to receiving, every day must feel like Christmas for the entrepreneurial singer, one of the world’s wealthiest musicians. The website Celebrity Net Worth has guesstimated his fortune at $400 million, which by their calculations puts him behind only Paul McCartney and Bono and ahead of Elton John and Mick Jagger.
Never mind that he hasn’t had a song in the Billboard pop Top 40 that was not a featured cameo on someone else’s single since 1979... :p:rolleyes:

OH, I bet he pushes for EVERY last royalty for a song that even SEEMS like his. ALSO, a company is named after one of his songs, plays his songs, and decorates according to some of his songs, so he gets a lot from THEM. And there IS a buffet styled song, where buffet sings also, that is currently out.

Jimmy Buffet is like a smaller version of the Beatles - he does things his way and his music was unique from the getgo.

He recorded the kind of music he liked to do - and he made a lot of money.

However, unlike most "stars" these days, he didn't live super large and wasn't seen on the covers of tabloids for his divorces and his excesses or drunk/drug sprees. He invested wisely and used the money he earned to make more money.

He also has done a lot for charity in the southern states. He hasn't forgotten his roots and he has been active here on the coast after Katrina and the oil spill.

He and his wife are down to earth, nice people and that's more than you can say for many of the "big stars" these days.

Though stories have tried to link them...they really aren't related (except the name similarity and being smart at what they do financially) and how many people have gotten wasted away again in 'Margaritaville'?

I first met Jimmy way back in the 70's in college - we we going on a "road trip" (ala Animal House) cars were still changing from 8-track to cassette, and the 8-tracks were relegated to the discount rack - (My 'new car' had an 8-track) I looked for something to play on the road, while the others were getting the 'essentials', and could find nothing worth anything rock related...I finally came across a guy who had a song I knew by Steve Goodman, called "Door number three", on an album called A1A, and I took a chance for 1.99 - when I plugged it in, at the first sound of 'twang', everyone went WTF??? and they threatened to throw me out of my own car...

By the time we got to where we were going - everyone was singing along, and knew the words to all of the songs. They were hooked.

That is the essence of Jimmy Buffet - he is a poet and a pirate, it's biographical, and he paints the stage of escapism for all who want to listen...("A pirate looks at 40, Havana Daydreamin' even "Cheezeburger in Paradise") and he has a knack of doing it with a wry sense of humor...

      After all..."Life is just a Tire Swing"...

Actually, Come Monday did reach the top 10.
If you haven't already, you should definitely read "A Pirate Looks At Fifty".
It's an introspection of his life told in a series of short stories while he and his family
go on his dream trip around the Caribbean for his 50th birthday.
