Kidney transplant doesn't have to be a perfect match

Kim, I don't know if you've seen this or not, but it certainly is worthwhile watching.

All the more reason for anyone to consider donating a kidney.

Well, I knew that in theory such a thing is possible, but it would seem, and apparently is, that you must be DILIGENT! Kim is probably happy that he doesn't have to be THAT careful. And the idea of limiting antibodies has other problems.

To compare it to a computer, it is like you turn off the antivirus software. Things run smoother, faster, and it is more compatible! Sounds GREAT until a virus attacks!

The voice-over mentioned, "...through a regiment of drugs and testing..."

Hmmm, drugs? I remember Kim mentloning prednisone as being what is used to stop rejection. Some people can't take prednisone.

    Jody,
    I hadn't seen that,thank you.

    Steve,
You are right, I'm still struggling with the immune system suppression medications and trying to be "normal" healthy as in overall general health and a normal immune system.

    Don,
I found out I was in kidney failure when I had an adverse reaction to Prednisone.
I had what they called acute steroidal psychosis ,which boils down to the fact I lost my mind for 3 days. Wen I regained it the told me I was in kidney failure.
Since I had never had any issues with my kidneys before, one camp feels that it is very likely that the kidney failure was due to the prednisone. The other camp is that the reaction to it save my life by them finding the failure due to me being hospitalized. In the long run it doesn't matter, can't change the past.

After the episode the Drs and hospital declared me allergic to the drug. And you are right,in the normal procedure Predinisone is one of the main drugs used after a transplant. When I received the transplant they told me later they had a Psychiatrist watching over me the first few days. I exhibited no abnormal behavior and I have been taking Prednisone ever since. And of course they have downgraded me from allergic to sensitive.
I currently take 10mg a day and will as long as the kidney survives, which I hope will be the rest of my life.
