What Are Some Of Your Favorite TV Shows?

Hi all,

I've recently started watching TV again and started watching a show called The Big Bang Theory. Having collected comic books while I was in high school and college, a lot of the humor they use on this show resonates with me. I can't get enough of the show!

I also got hooked on Game Of Thrones and The Walking Dead. The Game Of Thrones has incredible acting and a bunch of good storie lines and character build up. The Walking Dead has some good drama and always keeps me on my toes.

It seems to me that TV shows have gotten much, much better over the years.

What are some of your favorite TV shows and why do you like them?

Two very good shows indeed Rod and I like them both.

I'm a bit of a crime buff myself so I love any of the CSI,
NCIS and Law & Order etc...

On the comedy tip I like Modern Family...it's really well
written and the stuff they do just cracks me up

I like a variety of TV shows such as NCIS, Law & Order, Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, Revenge. I like them because they all are interesting and leave me waiting to know what the next episode is going to be about.

  • Too many to list - but one in particular I've been following, that had an interesting plot twist ending last night - was "Person of Interest" on CBS...I did not see that coming...

This is possibly the most underrated show on television. I never hear anyone talk about it. Great show, though.

And I didn't see it coming either. I had a feeling the FBI agent wasn't quite as stupid as he let on, but I thought it was going to be Root at the end.

Rod hit on all my other faves in his comment. However, at the risk of losing my Man Card, I'm willing to admit, after being forced to watch by the wife, I really like New Girl. Schmidt cracks me up.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

One of the best miniseries I have seen lately is The Way We Live Now, based upon the novel by Anthony Trollope.
      It's available on NetFlix.

I am currently watching The Forsyte Saga, also quite good.

Dexter, FRinge, and The Killing. That last one ran two seasons, and you may have to dig a little deep to find it (unless you have Netflix) but it is, by far, the best drama series I have ever watched.

Oh, and The Golden Girls. If you are over the age of 35, funny.as.shit.

These are all the "recent" shows that I watch.

The * ones are my favorites. Multiple *'s count.

      Mike and Molly **
      2 1/2 Men
      Hawaii Five-O
      NCIS **
      NCIS LA **
      Criminal Minds ***
      Big Bang Theory **
      Dr. Who *****
      Hot In Cleveland *
      Psych *
      Perception ****
      Dallas *

Without Larry Hagman, I don't know how good Dallas 2 will be.

I watch 2 1/2 Men mostly because my wife does but it's actually better now
than when Ashton first took over for Sheen. In fact, he's really grown on me.
Yes, it's a different show now. In fact, it's a lot different.

Dr. Who is probably the best franchise in TV history. If you haven't seen it,
      you've truly missed something special.

Perception is coming back in the summer and not a moment too soon. One of
the best TV shows to come along in recent days. The star of it is nothing
      short of amazing.

Criminal Minds is still Criminal Minds, but since their 100th episode, the show
hasn't been quite the same. It's hard following that one up. Still, even on a
so-so night, it's one of the best shows on TV.

Big Bang has lost some of its initial "oh my God, is Sheldon for real" shock
value but it's still a good show. I don't think it has more than another 2 or 3
seasons though. I mean there is only so much you can do with his character
and the premise. Howard, believe it or not, is actually the richest character
on the show. He's not as one dimensional as the others, especially when you
see the other side of him. Leonard has his moments too. The 4 of them are
great together and adding Amy was a stroke of genius as Sheldon's clone.

Hot In Cleveland is already starting to get a little old but Betty White is still
a hoot. Still, I'm not sure the show has more than a few seasons left.

Mike and Molly has had some incredibly funny episodes but it's a little uneven
at times. The one where Vince got stuck in the tub had me in tears it was so
funny. He's not on enough. It's a good cast and it has its moments. But it's
just not consistent with the funnies.

Psych is amazing. I don't know how it's still on other than the fact that after
so many years, you really care about Sean and Gus and want to see how it
all turns out. But the premise got old a long time ago.

Hawaii Five-O is your standard cop show. The chemistry between Steve and
Dan-o is wonderful. But the stories are just so-so. I can take it or leave it
but my wife watches it so I do too.

NCIS and NCIS LA are purely there for the characters, especially the original
show. If Tony and Zeva, and McGee and Abbs don't get together before it
ends, I'm going to be very upset. And of course, what will happen to Gibbs?
After all, he did commit murder and has to eventually pay for his crimes.

Given that Mark Harmon doesn't love his character, I give the show another
year or two before they pull the plug. I think the time is near. And as long as
they tie up all the loose ends (who really is director Vance?) it'll end well.

And there you have it. My short little rundown of my TV viewing, not counting
"The Young and The Restless" which I would never admit to watching.

Gosh! So many excellent shows. Favourites have obviously changed over the years along with my age and taste, but things like...

    - Deadwood
    - Cracker (British one with Robbie Coltrane)
    - FireFly
    - Inspector Morse
    - Invasion (why does the good stuff now nearly always get axed after one series, dammit!?)
    - Lewis
    - Midsomer Murders
    - Heartbeat (guilty pleasure )

    Tons of stuff, actually.

The quality of British programmes has declined a lot over the years, I reckon, save for a few intelligent one-off dramas and miniseries here and there, but there's a plethora of amazing comedy. You could spend a lifetime on the back-catalogue and not so much as scratch the surface.
