Cirque du Soleil shows have been closed, hundreds of employees laid off.

Cirque du Soleil made no money recently, costs spinning out of control.

There are a lot of companies out there that haven't really come to grips yet with the rapid increases in inflation. They had a record number of ticket sales last year and they are still struggling. Their production costs are probably skyrocketing just like everyone else's.

It's sad - but I hope they turn it around.

Cirque du Soleil will be all right (just as Starbucks is). Just can't keep on opening shop on every corner, and will need to close some down. I feel bad for the employees who lost their jobs, but they'll be fine too, though in all likelihood have to take on more generic types of jobs.

I'm pretty sure they'll be ok also. It's an awesome show. But you'd be surprised at how fast a large company can go under if it's not turning a profit. Debt can snowball really fast.

I believe that Cirque du Soleil will continue but to have 19 shows all around the world would be very expensive. You have to feel sorry for those who have lost their jobs but maybe they should pull back on the number of shows and get someone to manage their finances better.

Did you read the article? They would have been OK if they allowed for the inflation of the dollar. Based on what I have traditionally seen, the US dollar has dropped over the canadian dollar by about 32%! That means THAT, if they didn't raise prices, they LOST about 32% of profit JUST TO THAT! Bear in mind that they ALSO have to allow for CANADIAN inflation! If they increased US business, which I am SURE they have, they INCREASED the rate of loss!

Of course, the problem with increasing prices is it could increase competition and reduce customers.

They laid off 8% of their force - many companies have laid off far more than that.

Please do not 'release balloons' for celebrations. The balloons and trailing ribbons entangle birds and kill wildlife and livestock that think the balloons are food.
