What do I know?

I know that it is perfectly acceptable to lie about another WF member as long as you do it in private.

I know it is perfectly acceptable to make unfounded and spurious accusations as long as you do it in private.

I know that the rule of silence in this monastic order is very, very dangerous because it implies the acceptability of behaviour that should not be tolerated any where.

I know that it is pointless trying to either openly defend yourself or point out a weakness in the system because the silent majority will simply delete your post and the responses to it.

In a forum that encourages 'secret, star chamber' type tactics, truth and honour will be looked upon askance and those wishing to wield these two mighty swords will only be allowed to when it is convenient and doesn't contradict or diminish another member's right to lie, exagerate, malign or otherwise impugn the character of others.

Whether in private or not, blatant, written lies should not EVER be tolerated.

I'm disgusted to find that this is the case here.

    I'm not sure anyone can do anything about folks lying about someone else in private. (Unfortunately). It happens everywhere all the time, (Not just on forums etc).

    I have no idea about what has happened, I presume you have been the victim of this and have tried to defend yourself publically, but the truth is there will always be scumbags who are happy to do stuff like this to other people. (Both publically and in private).

    I hope whatever it is that has happened is resolved quickly. Stuff like that can eat away at you

    Hi, Kim,

    That is exactly what has happened.

    I would normally just let these things ride but this particular attack was totally without foundation and the liar obviously got enough support to have my rebuttal post removed.

    If anybody has an issue with me and is too cowardly to take it up in public they should hold their peace and accept that they are in an indefensible position rather than sneak behind some holly hedge and throw stones.

    New members receiving similar treatment may well consider that the maturity of members of the WF is in question and miss out on a great source of help and information.

    Hi Artwebster, I don't normally get involved in these kind of threads, I stay out - easier that way - but and I'm not trying to 'show off' I ain't that kind of guy. But I have one of the more Google noted usernames on the boards - and I had some critisisms made about how I moderate over at WPW - not on that board but on a board run by two folks that have been banned in more forums than I care to mention. So I joined their board and took the fight to them, and that too is unlike me, I hate flamers, but I was not about to simply sit back and ignore it. Guess what happened? I took them to bits, politely, but with cold facts and links to those facts. The trick is to be in control, and to wear a very thick skin. You're ok in my books. Let it pass mate.

    The fact that people lie should not be news to you.
    The best thing you can do is forget about whatever happened and move on.
    Those that know you will know whatever you're talking about is a lie, and those that don't know you won't care.

    It is because I am no youngster but can see how a youngster or new member of these boards could be affected by such malignancy that I felt I should leave the silent majority.

    With the right to post penalties and warnings goes the responsibility of accuracy and rectitude unless I am greatly mistaken.

    I don't usually get involved in disputes unless
    it's to try to offer some type of mediation.

    I dunno what you're talking about. How would you know if someone is lying about you in private? Did someone privately tell you that someone else was lying about you in private? Well like someone else said, guess it's better in private than a public post, though it would be nuked. If someone has nothing better to do than lie in private about you, just be glad you have better things to do.
