Can anything be done? (Recorded sound problem)

Hi

....looking for input on this. I am interested in buying 3 dvds or 3 downloadable videos. The seller honestly states that they were filmed outside with a lot of wind noise. After I buy these, can that wind noise be taken out and the rest enhanced somehow?

(Without costing an arm and a leg!)

Thanks
Frank

You could try audacity (free), sample a part of only the wind audio, then remove the noise from the entire audio. Not sure If that will shorten the audio timeline in audacity?

I was going to suggest the same. In theory, if it is consistent, or matches a pattern, you can easily filter out the noise and have a reasonably good sound track. Audacity is good enough that if IT can't do it, you maybe should give up.

You SHOULD try to avoid wind noise though.

One piece of audio software I use is WavePad from NCH. There used to be a free version. Maybe there is a free trial.

The noise removal system in it, lets you pick a blank place between words, copy a short piece of the sound from that space (which in this case would be the wind noise without spoken words), and then WavePad will remove that noise from the entire track. It works surprisingly well.

    Audacity probably does this too.

Problem though is it is audio only. You would need to separate out the audio from the video track, remove the noise, then put the new audio back into the video track. For this you will need something like Camtasia.

Why the guy recorded the videos outside in the wind, and didn't add a wind filter (at least somewhat helpful) I can't imagine. What was he thinking? Since he appears to be "selling" the videos, it is most unprofessional of him to not re-record the videos, or at least do the noise processing himself and place the processed audio back into his product for his customers.
