'Privacy killer' CISPA is coming back, whether you like it or not

CISPA - the online privacy-killing bill - is coming back. Congress needs to get slammed with emails and calls.

And you can stamp your feet as much as you want, the way it's looking, the proposals will be brought into law whether you like it or not.
It's going to happen and most people won't complain because of the increase in hacking incidents and lost personal info. The majority in the public will view this as a security issue. IMers tend to view hackers as heroes or highly skilled users - the general public have a fear of hackers and want the attacks stopped. Any measure that will hint at "protection" will be accepted by the average person.

How dangerous it is to privacy will depends on how the law is worded. I've always believed this type of bill is going to become law and it would be smarter to focus on making the law reasonable than on trying to keep blocking a bill that will eventually be passed in some form.

I'm against it - but I don't think what I think matters this time. This one may be filed under "getting the government you deserve".

  • Congressman Rogers says you don't need to fear for your privacy with CISPA bill because, "We're talking about exchanging packets of information, zeroes and ones, if you will, so some notion that this is a horrible invasion of content reading is wrong"

    Wait a minute... - I thought the internet was "a series of tubes" :p

I think one of the commenters on this story summed it up nicely...

"We're talking about exchanging packets of information, zeroes and ones, if you will, one hundred millions times a second," [Rogers] said.
So, he's admitting that either A) he doesn't understand technology well enough to legislate it, or B) that he's a lying sack of crap trying to obfuscate the truth.

Since he probably won't understand the "just zeros and ones", that spells:

      IDIOT!!!

You see, to make circuitry simpler and more reliable, computers CAN only deal with zeros and ones. That would be pretty worthless. IMAGINE! NO graphics, NO TEXT! SO, about 50 years or so they created a second standard like the standard created about a decade earlier, based on a standard a decade before that, that allows a string of zeros and ones(called bits) to make up a unit called a BYTE that can represent a character.

So this DOES deal with PRIVATE security!

Signed the petition and will continue to sign as many as I am aware of!

I will not lie down and succumb! I won't say, "Ah, well, it's going to happen sooner or later, so whatever. What condition would our country be in now if everyone felt the same as I do?

I have a voice and will use it even if it leads to laryngitis, haha!

Signed. But, let me get this straight ...

    1. We're going to implement a law that supposedly declares war on hackers.

    2. Then, we're going to put thousands of unmanned drones in the air.

    3. Finally, we're going to hope and pray they don't figure out how to hack drones.

Good call. I guess 2013 is going to be an eventful year.

    This idea is completely stupid.

Like a hacker is going to login on his home internet service (in his name) to hack a Gov. site.

What goofball came up with this idea? Apparently they've never heard of war driving.

oh well... I'm getting fairly used to people trying to "stamp" all over my rights. No surprise here.

Talk is cheap.. until someone comes to my door and intends to harm me or my family, I don't care.

If that day comes, I got something for 'em

Whether planned or not... I think it is PLANNED, since they already have orchestrated trial runs, WORLD WIDE, a few hundred times. I could prove it by saying a few words, but.....

Anyway, it will likely NOT be the government at your door. You may wish it WERE!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like you will likely be VERY surprised! Do you happen to have a few hundred THOUSAND rounds lying around?

We can HOPE it won't happen, but things are going as many have predicted. Key parts have to happen and some here have said they never would. Well, countries have been silently saying that it WILL happen by doing what was claimed that they never would. Recently, three countries to add their voice were germany, france, and switzerland. It is DEFINITELY very bad news for the US.
