U.S. FDA seeking to approve new "Frankenfish" (GM salmon)

All things considered, this seems like a rather bad idea.

1. The FDA is on the verge of approving an almost certain disaster
2. How do you like your salmon? Normal? Or Frankensalmon?

    In this case, fish.

    Here's their particular gameplan ...

Purdue Scientists devised a computer model to anticipate the outcome if 60 GE salmon were released into a population of 60,000 normal salmon. Within just 40 fish generations, the normal fish population was gone. Completely extinct.

Canadian scientists took this experiment a step further. They created GE fast-growing salmon. When they released the fish in a tank with normal salmon, nothing much happened. But when researchers decreased food supply, the GE fish went wild. They began cannibalizing other fish -- both GE and normal.
You can bet, the scientists at press will promote the benefits of being able to finally feed the world's hungry, starving population. And the complete takeover of an entire ecosystem, held hostage by one money-grubbing corporation for financial gain won't even be mentioned.

To the scientists who really want to feed people like they say, here's how you do it ...

    1. We need $195 billion per year to feed everyone worldwide.

    2. That's just 0.7% income from the world's top 22 developed nations

    3. Here's how it would play out in America ...

    a/ $13 trillion U.S. income x .7% = $91 billion
    b/ 235 million U.S. adults - 10% unemployed = 211.5 million US workers
    c/$91 billion / 211.5 million = $430.26 per worker per year
d/ That's just $35.86 per month (less if you tax based on income)

It's similar in other developed nations and it's not the giant problem we make it out to be. So, my advice to scientists ...

Stop diddling the fish and learn math.

At this point it looks like it'll be approved despite public outcry. The man our admin installed at the top of the FDA is an ex-Monsanto exec after all. The people aren't going to get a say in it.

This is our one and only opportunity to speak up.You can make your voice heard by
letting the FDA know that we will not tolerate Frankenfish in our food supply.

NOTE: The Regulations.gov hosting facility is performing scheduled hardware maintenance and as a result the site will be unavailable Saturday, February 16, from 12:01 a.m. through Monday, February 18, at 6:00 p.m. (ET).

WTG - - these fish will take over and destroy our native (natural) fish populations so it needs to bother you. I am allergic and CAN'T eat it - but it scares the hell out of me what will happen if they are released into the wild.

That's already happening with Asian Carp.

Ironically, these fish are a staple food source in China and they don't have enough. And, it's too costly to ship ours to China.
