Revealed: How Then Governor Goodluck Jonathan Gave Obaigbena $1 Million From Bayelsa

SaharaReporters has uncovered a document indicating that a million dollars of Bayelsa State's poverty alleviation fund was spent by then Governor Goodluck Jonathan on bringing American entertainers Beyonce and Jay Z to Nigeria in 2006.
In a letter stamped and signed by Bayelsa officials, N150 million (approximately a million dollars in 2006) was released from the state's poverty alleviation fund for the first ThisDay Music Festival in Lagos.
The document came to light after a controversy was ignited over how much money American "reality TV" star Kim Kardashian was paid for a brief visit to Nigeria.
Ms. Kardashian, star of a US TV show about her idle rich family and who shot to international fame after a sex tape featuring her and her rapper boyfriend went viral, was reportedly paid half a million dollars for the 24-hour-visit last week.
Hey...how could you not trust a guy with a name like Goodluck Johnathan?

Because why would the poor want food and shelter when they can see Beyonce?

The fact that the Kardashians are considered to be famous makes me sad to be an American sometimes.

Didn't the Kardashians battle the Klingons in the old Star Trek episodes on TV from the 1970's?

I know that big Kardashian could easily defeat a Klingon.

I have no doubt that is true but would you pay $500,000 to see one? What kind of 'goodwill ambassador' is that? Was Snookie busy that day?

MAN, that is SICK! Most would ASSUME that they did it for FREE! and they get free publicity. Paying a half million to someone else would likely do FAR more good.

        Just received this email:

        Hello,

I am President of Nigeria Finance Department.

I am writing to you to notify of our intent to transfer sum of $1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 to your bank account.

All you have to do is take Kim Kardashian away and not let her come to Nigeria again.

        Yours faithfully,

I actually think that when Beyonce and Jay Z find out this story, they will probably figure out a way to take steps to give the money back to Bayelsa funding (it was allocated for micro-loans) - they apparently had no idea that is what they were being paid with, and will no likely be appalled and embarrassed by this - Kardashian? I dunno....

I can't speak for the rest of the planet, but ****NO**** American can use that as an excuse!Africa is known as primarily being cash poor, ESPECIALLY places like nigeria and ethiopia. People talk ALL THE TIME about HELPING them with simple resources to live, simple technology, and MONEY!

Unless this is a separate story it was in the news at the time. As I recall the entertainers claimed to "know nothing about where money came from". I'm thinking one of them at least return all or part of the money they were paid. I might be thinking of a separate similar incident - but the names are the same.

Wherever it came from it was NOT them, and likely not some american or whatever that wanted to give nigerians a show, so WHERE did they THINK it came from?

"Kardashian" is the same as "Anna Nichole Smith", as "Britney Spears"...every time the spin doctors need a break from spinning the web and hiding real news, these types usually come up :p

For less than the price of a cup of coffee you can see two concerts & a Kardashian.

Ticket scalpers were probably jacking the ticket price up to well over a $1.73.

I've always been curious though...exactly WHAT does a Kardashian do? They are not entertainers, they really have no talent to speak of...other than being good at self promotion...
Like Paris Hilton, why do people pay for these "celebrities" who do nothing but fill empty space get paid exorbitant amounts of money, just to 'be there' like some side-show carnival freak? (albeit somewhat better dressed :p)

Nigeria isn't the only country that the aid doesn't really always get to the people. Look at Haiti -billions in aid from all over the globe and the only one living decent is the gov that receives it.

We need to get our gov to stop sending aid to other countries. If we send any at all it should be attached to diplomats who can be trusted (lol) to distribute the funds themselves. I'm getting sick of paying for my own country's looting - can't afford to support everyone else's too.

        If only more knew that!

My mother once supported a polish family sponsored by her priest. They were considered poor, etc... It was a mother and her daughter, NO FATHER.

NOW, for the PUNCH LINE, and I am NOT making this up! Her priest was RICH, had lots of land! The polish mother lived like QUEEN! They BOTH spoke english! As for the father!?!?!?!? TAKE A GUESS!!!!!!!!! YEP, the CATHOLIC priest, was the FATHER!!!!!

So my relatively poor mother that didn't own a 1/10th of an acre, and died in debt, was supporting the family of her priest!!!

Catholic priests are supposed to be CELIBATE, and have a vow of poverty!

I hope people didn't think that they money they donated actually went to the people they claimed to be helping. If that's the case, then I've got some land in Montana I'd like to sell you as well.

having been to nigeria, i think 'invest ' would be a more apt term for this schemata, considering where some of their aid programmes end up
