It's like the British when we make a cup of Tea, the nation is split down the middle on whether it is milk or sugar which should go in 1st.

Well second of course although I am relaxed over sugar.

George Orwell wrote about this in addition to some other blatherings which one forgets about these days. Animals and Dates or something of that nature.

I've never heard that one before?

We're certainly split about 50/50 on whether the milk should go in before or after the tea, though.

What is the difference, if any, between cups of tea prepared by putting in the tea or the milk first? | Notes and Queries | guardian.co.uk

I had a firewood nightmare a few years ago.

I had moved to MS and was living with my son here. He was off on one of his flight missions and I decided it was a perfect evening to enjoy the fireplace.

He had a big stack of firewood outdoors that had been been aging all summer. I took pieces from the bottom of the stack in the belief they would be well-aged. Wrong move.

The wood at the bottom was old and had been invaded by black beetles. I didn't know that until I lit the fire and bugs started pouring out. It would be a hit on YouTube if I had a video of me trying to kill bugs as they flowed out of the burning fireplace. Not one of my finer moments and it was a long time before I could laugh about it.

I ended up dousing the fire - which stunk up the whole house.

Ey.. Wait. What? Never heard about this "splitting" before :p

The only thing I know is that 99% of the population got furious (included me) when the national broadcasting broadcasted 12 hours with burning firewoods on the license payers expense.

Similar to what they did last year when they mounted a camera on a ship and broadcasted it live for 2 months... And that's what we're forced to pay $500 a year for?

Sounds like better value for money than "reality" tv shows.

So that blind people can hate them as well.

Very nearly - it's about $467 at today's exchange-rate. And I thought mine in the UK was a lot of money at about $230!

Well, at least you get an ad-free BBC for that.

In Ireland, we have the pleasure of paying for a licence and having ads too.
