Americans are cows. They will sit on a couch and drool at a screen no matter WHAT you put on it - as long as it moves once in awhile.

Yep, that's the thing, Americans do get all the new crap, before Aussies do!

        Probably a good thing!!!!

Although AU is such a desert, that we will force ourselves into watching this sort of crap, just to have something to watch!

Thankfully l have a good selection of "never show on tv" movies, so l won't have to degrade myself!

Or if a particularly nasty thing is on the news, l will read about it instead, in the paper!

It's ok, to be informed, but not ok, to be informed and depressed the rest of the day!!!

You've got to be joking. Pay TV channels are full of the same type of sh*t the FTA digital channels, and many of the shows featured in the OP, with just as many adverts as the FTA.

In any given week, FoxTel loses as many customers as it gains.
No, l mean the last time we saw it.

In AU, if a new crappy version comes out, that's all we see, the old version that tends to be better, gets buried!

Ok, l have heard that Foxtel has as many if not more adds. But they also seem to have more new release's, and replays of movies we never see on free stations.

It doesn't make much sense that they will hold back on classic movies, on free to air, and not put them on a paid setup somewhere else?

I am sure that the new version of the Italian Job, is more expensive to show than the old version, which is ancient by comparison!

Yep, l will have to rent that one soon! Interestingly enough, the real ending to that version was, Micheal Caine, let the engine run until it ran out of petrol, so the back was lighter, then everyone got off and he let the bus go off the edge, hoping that he could get to it, (the gold) but the mafia got it instead.

Then that was supposed to lead into another movie, that wasn't made!

Hmmmm, another classic, that will never appear on FTA!!! Sniff!

And to think in 1979 when Pink Floyd released The Wall, we only had 13 channels of shit on the TV...

YOU had 13?!?!?!? WOW! In LA, we only got like:

2,4,5,7,9,11,13 and, on UHF, often 52. VHF only had like 13 possible channels, as I recall. UHF has a lot more, but was less likely to have many and it was even less likely that they wouldn't be foreign or some short of hobby show.

SO, in most of MY childhood, I only got 8. :8

Ironically, I usually didn't have too much of a choice and now, with HUNDREDS of possible channels, may only watch like 10.

And I was a late comer to all three of them.

Yep, AU has about 13 channels of Crap, currently, 6 are free to air, and the rest are digital.

Digital mainly runs, crap from the 80's and 90,s, constantly!

The sort of sit-coms l was relieved that they finally finished, so l wouldn't have to sit through them anymore.

Unfortunately they are dug out of the tv vaults to annoy again!!!

Although they also format it to, plasma formats, so not only is it annoying, if you have a CRT tv, then it is a blurry mess as well! Arrrrrrggggg

Free to air, in AU is a desert! Just to give you some examples, they haven't played "Escape from New York" for more than 10 years, as well as, the first Pink Panther and Con-Air, to name a few!

Day the Earth Stood Still, 10+, (unless you count the crappy new one) although they still run the Andromeda man and the new one, so l will give them that.

The original "The Italian Job" 10 years +, probably 13, and the pretty good, but not the same, newer version, once or twice a year!

All the good stuff is on the paid tv, stations, and since Aussies have plenty of spare cash, (l wish) we can afford the $135 a month to see anything decent!!!! Grrrrrrrrrr

I have also found that Golf coverage in AU seems to be decreasing as well, we used to have about 6 to 8 weeks of great golf. Now we seem to get a handful, then nothing?

Can't these, B***** give us something!!!!!

It's bad enough, everything is becoming more expensive, without holding back on decent entertainment, and replacing it with crap!!!

Another interesting thing in AU is sales of DVD,s are decreasing, and people are clearing the shelves of external hard drives for their computers!

Hmmmm, seems to be a pattern there?

Shoplifting is also increasing, etc! The more they back us into a corner, the more the rule book gets bent, for better or worse!!!

Pity someone sane wouldn't step in and fix this S***, maybe soon, time will tell!

In any given week, FoxTel loses as many customers as it gains.

If you want quality first run shows, subscribe to Quickflix. They've recently signed content deals with HBO, the BBC and ITV (UK) amongst others. A plus side is that none of your hard earned goes into Murdoch's pockets.

Services like this will continue to grow as more and more of the NBN is rolled out.

The next time you're reading your favourite Murdoch fish-wrapper telling you how bad the NBN is, and how much of a waste it is, understand that the NBN will destroy FoxTel (eventually).

The only real advantage FoxTel has at the moment is sports and first run movies. With an NBN enabled service like Quickflix, you'll be able to watch (at your convenience), not only first run movies, but all the old classics as well, whenever you want.

Sports, eventually, will also cut out the middle man (Murdoch), and offer their own TV channels which can be accessed online for a subscription fee which will be infinitely more affordable than FoxTel..

The only thing that can stop this happening is the current opposition being voted in to office.

When you're reading Murdoch's pro-LNP propaganda, remember, it is not being written on behalf of the country (which by any yardstick is doing very well compared to the rest of the world), it's being done to protect Murdoch's investment in FoxTel.

Murdoch is quite happy to see this country go into an "austerity" driven recession (think UK, or even Queensland), to protect his 50% stake in the FoxTel monopoly.

What's good for Murdoch is not good for you.

    An interesting development:

Code Found In YouTube's Most Recent App Update All But Confirms Pay-To-View Channels Are Coming

The biggest media outlet in the world, YouTube, is entering the pay per view market.

    RIP TV.

Oh yeah. Even I'll sit and watch something if I get to pick out what it is. LOL. Wonder how long it will take for advertisers to just abandon TV stations.
