I am thinking that despite the heavy rain outside legendary door-to-door salesman Horace Bartholomew Schmidt -- The Man In The Plaid Suit himself -- has probably left his water-front mansion and is out and about selling his wares door-to-door, occasionally being chased off properties by vicious dogs.

    The Fruitcake Legacy

It's a story I'm thinking of writing. It's about a family that has sent the same fruitcake to each other for the last 43 years. It's been going on for three generations without fail. Everyone has had possession of this relic several times.

The climax comes when a particularly dimwitted family member eats the fruitcake. Word leaks out as to what he has done and the entire family drops what they're doing, converges on his home and _________ him. Help me out and fill in the blank.

I was thinking of something a little darker. Vampires are hot. Zombies are even hotter. Maybe kick off a new morbid trend. Cannibals. I think people would like that. It wouldn't do it for me but if I were to write the original franchise cannibal yarn... Maybe I could get a new Vespa.

It might start something like this.

It all started when that stupid bashtard Jeb ate the legacy fruitcake. The rest of us were fit to be tied. Zeke was so angry when he heard about it he bought a plane ticket right off. He'd set Jeb straight, right quick.

That's what triggered the others to move. We all followed Zeke's lead. Of course, I had a part in it. I felt we were acting like a posse or even a lynch mob. None of us knew what we'd do when we got there. Turns out we all arrived around the same time. Midnight.

Man, were we hungry. And that's when it dawned on us. It was eerie. We all got the same idea at the same time... There were 62 of us. Someone whispered, "Eat Jeb." Then someone else said it. I'm not sure when I realized I was repeating it too. It turned into a whispered chant as we made our way up Jeb's driveway. Eat Jeb. Eat Jeb. Eat Jeb...

It was hard to tell whether the long flights we'd endured had given us that glazed look or whether it was the promise of flesh, fresh flesh. (say that three times fast)

Can you see it? Sam Elliot could do the promo in that gravely voice of his.

        Jeb, he's what's for dinner...

        A mini series maybe.

Before long there are cable shows featuring clans of cannibals. Cannibal books are selling like hotcakes on Amazon. Cannibal Nation.

        Wait, we've already got that.

More like the dang house period! We're still looking for a new one, the one I really wanted fell through.

What kicked it over the top was the downfall of being a nanny to my two youngest grandbabies. The baby got sick and ended up in an oxygen tent in the hospital and despite dousing myself with vitamins C and D3, I succumbed. I ended up with both ears, throat and sinus infections turned walking pneumonia turned to and I quote, a touch of pneumonia in the left lung.

I'm still not completely up to par, but I'm slowly getting there.

I think the OP is serious?

Seriously.. if you think your boss is going to fire you:

Marry his daughter > Take her to the meeting with you > and announce the big news.

You may get killed (or worse), but probably not fired! Unless she was a big spender and he was supporting her.

      Thanks Theresa!

I have been trying to get some rest, after my 11 hour days I come home and rest, that's why I haven't been on in about a week. I do manage about an hour nap while the little ones are down too. Haha, a napping Nana, nothing like making one feel old, lol!

Anyway, the thing is, Nana's house seems to be the hot spot for the weekends. Yesterday had both daughter's families here including all five grandkids, the mother-in-law and son's best friend who we haven't seen in 3 years.

Today, I'm taking it easy, though.

Yep, I am not just opening windows, but door walls, lol!

And going out a bit for a walk in the back property. The pine branches capped in snow are quite breathtakingly beautiful. Haha! Perhaps the wrong choice of word, er, majestically beautiful, that is. I'm taking as deep of breaths as I can.

Hmm.. let's see, everyone likes to go to your house. :p Nuff said, right there!
And, for the record, naps are awesome! Being forced to nap, not so cool. I think just about every adult agrees that naps rock, but we all hated them as a kid. I know I had stuff to do, now, it can wait.

Although I don't have any two legged children, I will say I feel you (SORRY THUNDERBIRD!) I am the "go to" person in this neighborhood for way too many things! Whether they need a pie, dessert, dinner (for their guests) or computer repair, or horse advise.. it goes on and on! Please don't misunderstand me, it's kind of flatering, and I do have some super cool neighbors.. HOWEVER, my right to nap should not be infringed!

I'm glad you are feeling better! I know you have the mentality of "I ain't got time for that", meaning, being sick. But wouldn't it be nice if someone took care of us the way we take care of them?

Have a great weekend, what's left of it! I'm going outside to play without my phone!
