Thousands of people across the United States are expected to turn off their smartphones and other electronic devices for 24 hours to observe the National Day of Unplugging.

Are you going to turn off your electronic devices?

It would take me 24 hours just to unplug all of my devices.

I'm all for it. It does seem a shame to have to call a national day for it to get people to unplug, though. It's not healthy to be plugged in 24/7.

I am not in a position to have a landline right now - but I leave it at home most of the time. It takes messages. I'm not missing anything. I refuse to render myself a slave to people who want me right there right then just because they want to call or text at a certain time. In the same breath - I go outside a lot - sometimes stay out for days so I don't need a national day to tell me to tune out for a few hours.

I will participate, just for the fun of it, though. Why not? It will be interesting to see stats later on if anyone compiles them. It will be nice to live for 24 hours with the grid almost silent and remember what it's like to not be bombarded with electromagnetic waves for awhile. Maybe the absence of thick layers of those waves would allow people to wake up to reality a little bit again.

If your television is currently on the blink, does that count?

I'll play my acoustic guitar instead of my electric. That's all the unplugging I care to do.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.
