I actually like this song better than the Les Miserables one. Nicely done.

Note: Edited because some were offended by the first video I posted. A difference in opinion of what's funny, but I didn't intend to offend this singer. I'm actually happy for her.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.

Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

If it "had to happen" it's because of people with a cruel streak and too much time on their hands - it doesn't have to be spread by others.

Would that video have been made if Susan Boyle looked like a super model?

    No.

And it wasn't even a very good parody. But hey, thanks for posting...

Well, I would have to disagree. As an example, if you do a Youtube search of "Britney Spears Parody" you will find 6,000 results!

It seems you are the one bringing attention to Miss Boyles appearance. The parody doesn't make fun of her appearance or looks. The parody I showed just was having fun by adding a voice that didn't fit her, a song that was way different from what she sang and the reactions of the judges. I thought the guy who edited it did a pretty fair job.

BTW, here's a parody of Britney that's not bad either. I think part of the price of being a celebrity is you open yourself up to these things:

Sure, that's why they used a male voice...

Interpret it however you wish. I, as well as others, see it quite differently. It's pretty clear why they are making fun of her and it's very mean-spirited. I'm sorry if you are too blind to see it for what it is.

Yes, she will find this happening as she becomes more of a celebrity but I don't think we need anyone posting that type of discriminatory video on this forum.

First a video, then people thinking it's okay to do it to her face, and the next step is another case of Matthew Shepherd (although it certainly does not appear that she is gay).

One thing leads to another as people become ever more emboldened and it should be nipped in the bud before it gets out of hand.

          Tim -

That's ridiculous to compare a media hound like spears...she IS a parody.

Boyle is a simple woman with a great voice and videos like this have only one purpose - to make fun of someone because of looks or physical mannerisms.
You don't see that because you are busy defending posting it.

Whoever made that video thought he was being a real funny guy but in truth it's mean spirited and that's exactly how it was meant.

I can't believe someone compared editing a parody video of Susan Boyle to the hate murder of Matthew Shepherd. How offensive.

Anyway, the guy who posted the video was right. The "joke" is that the song sounds nothing like the one she sang (substituting a raspy voiced burlesque singer for the sweet vocal stylings of Ms. Boyle). It has nothing to do with her appearance. I feel bad for poor Susan Boyle. Here she was, living her life, probably happy with the way she looked, and now that she's famous, all anyone can talk about is how she doesn't look like a "supermodel."

Her fans are the ones who are truly hurting her by constantly commenting on, and getting defensive about, her "looks."

Oh, and by the way, to answer your question of whether or not this video would have been made if she looked like a supermodel, the answer is: yes. When I have a spare moment between editing projects, I like to cut together funny videos using popular subject matter to draw viewers to my youtube page. The same day that I saw the original Susan Boyle video, I also watched the 1985 comedy film "Lust in the Dust" where a honky tonk stripper sings "These Lips." It clicked, and I thought, "Whoa, wouldn't it have been funny if Susan Boyle had performed THIS song instead of the one from Les Miserables."

It never occurred to me to make fun of her "looks" or mock her because she's not beautiful. I edit parodies of everything that strikes my fancy, regardless of how the person looks.

Poor Susan Boyle. Nobody can get over how "less than stellar" she looks. However, I never judged her in such a way. At least she'll always people like me who aren't obsessed with her homeliness.

Right, spears is an entertainer, boyle has the voice of a singer.

however in the world of entertainment, someone with no talent, like spears, but looks good on posters, cd covers and mtv is going to be the person that actually sells albums.

while ms. boyle has a great talent, her 15 minutes of fame are drawing closed. as soon as the newness of her voice wears off, she'll never be heard from again, primarilyi because of her physical appearance.

      sucks. but its the truth

BTW, I wasn't comparing Boyle to Spears. I was using Spears as an example of someone who has parodys about her to counter what Allan said: "Would that video have been made if Susan Boyle looked like a super model?" See? Not comparing. Not ridiculous.

I disagree with Michael though. I think Miss Boyle will be successful as she has a lot of fans already. She'll probably sign a record deal with Simon and sell a lot of CDs.

By the way, the main reason that video was made wasn't to be cruel. It was simply to take advantage of a hot video by latching onto it.

She'll sell a lot of CD's if she's not on the cover.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but thats how the entertainment world is. Look at Ruben Studdard. Great voice, and about 200lbs overweight. He has a better voice than most that are in R&B right now, but he doesnt look good on cd covers as say chris brown.

She'll be like the asian guy from a few years back. he was a 'big deal' for about 6 months, now you only see him on those 'where are they now' shows.
