I gave an honest listen to the music of a top 30 radio station. I even tried to like it. Basta! I just couldn't take it any more.

I never knew such a thing existed?
Is that part of that new fangled thing called the internet?
When I was growing up it only went to the Top 20!

I like about 10% of it (sometimes a bit less; sometimes a bit more). There are occasional items within that 10% that I really like very much. The question is always whether it's worth trying to tolerate the other 90% for the sake of sometimes identifying and appreciating that 10%. My overall feeling is that it's probably not, when there's so much other wonderful music to listen to, all day long if you want to, without needing the "top 30" at all.

Thanks Alexa Smith I have to agree with you about the 10% but usually the radio overplays the ones that I can manage to like that turn it into one of the 90+% that I can't stand so they pretty much defeat themselves in a way. Even with completely user controlled radio stations like 96.7 jelli in Las Vegas it has turned from a station with good taste in electronic music into just another terrible station that plays the same crappy songs over and over. I have come to the conclusion that the general public has bad taste in music.

    different perhaps, but not bad

i do not listen to top 30, because i prefer other types of music, some say i am the one with bad taste, i say different, but dylan does suck, not bad, just different

I agree about dylan. It's just so annoying his voice inflections that he uses in his singing. You can't go wrong with some Grateful Dead though

Dylan is a songwriter,wo I think understands his limits with his voice.
His writing stands up there with Lennon and McCarthy.

Grateful Dead were musicians. The original jam band. A lot of great music, but at the same time, like Dylan, not everything was "good" different, it was just "different".

The little bits that I've heard make me think exactly this, too.

Even sometimes "above", perhaps? Lennonism had plenty to offer, it seems, but McCarthyism was apparently a whole other thing ...

Are you sure? The Top 40 format has been around since the 60s, at least. I've never heard of Top 30, but that doesn't mean anything. I still think Top 40 is the most common. I agree that most of it is pretty awful.

<< i do not listen to top 30, because i prefer other types of music, some say i am the one with bad taste, i say different, but dylan does suck, not bad, just different >>

You are really launching a vendetta against Dylan -this is like the third time I've read your comments about how much he sucks in the past week or so, lol. I think his lyrics are brilliant, which more than compensates for his voice.

<< Even sometimes "above", perhaps? Lennonism had plenty to offer, it seems, but McCarthyism was apparently a whole other thing ...>>

Both, I think, are preferable to Stalinism, though I don't think Stalin ever had a Top 40 hit.
