"New research suggests it may be possible to learn complex tasks with little to no conscious effort, just like in The Matrix. Whoa, indeed."

Study of the Day: Soon, You May Download New Skills to Your Brain - Hans Villarica - The Atlantic

What skill would (will) you download to your brain?

I would (will) download the skill of uploading to other brains...

Oh my! Well, in that case, I'd download the skill of emitting an invisible force field that would shield me from long distance bitch slaps!

I'd be afraid my download would come with a virus that made me crap my pants anytime someone said hello to me.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

I'd like to be proficient in another language. Don't have the time and my old brain resists learning new things. Chinese or Gaelic.

That's a tough question. Since I had just finished playing my guitar my first thought was to be a master guitarist. But since you said "skill" instead of "skills" I'd probably want to think about it more if we only get one.

Suppose we could download the ability to play the guitar though. Would we appreciate having that skill as much as if we earned it through practice? I'm sure at first it would be fantastic, but I wonder if it would seem as wonderful a year or two down the line.

Conventional wisdom is that people don't appreciate what they get for free as much as what they earn. What say you?

Gee, I would love some tech ability. After that, I can think of a whole lot of other things I want as well.
