Which 1 skill would you keep?

I am interested in finding out from all of you seasoned pros lurking out there the following.

If you had to start again from scratch with zero knowledge, but you could keep 1 skill that you believe you have at the moment, which 1 would you keep?

After that, and assuming you could relearn the skills you have now, which would be the second skill that you would relearn as quickly as possible to get you back and earning your living again?

Many thanks in advance for your responses.

Copywriting easily. Traffic + Conversion = Sales. The "conversion" part is the copywriting element.

Maybe I am thinking in depth here, but writing would be the only feasible skill in keep because you need it to search, write an email, explain what you want etc... It is one of the fundamental skills in life which should be learnt, along with basic maths.

Persuasion is definitely a skill, and a very difficult one to learn.
It is even harder to learn when the persuasion is the written word and not face to face.
The vast majority of communication we do is non verbal in a face to face situation but this is very difficult to convey as a sales letter or sales page, so it still comes back to the written word.

However, copywriters will tell you that you should learn to sell face to face because it makes writing copy easier.

I would agree with the copywrites in that the art of selling should be learned face to face.

All selling consists of is saying the right words at the right time to convey the sales message, but the biggest advantage you have is that you are able to guage the customers reaction whereas in a sales letter or page, you have to assume the reaction and hope that you have assumed the correct reaction at the right time in the letter.

I used to be a sales manager for a very large B2B company in the UK and one of the things I used to drill into my sales people was that every "no" from a customer was just a stepping stone to a yes.

This is very difficult to achieve in a sales letter as you are getting no interaction, so you have to assume in the pitch where the objections will be and overcome them even though they are only assumed.

The knowledge of face to face selling will give you the experience to assume where these objections will arise so you can reaffirm the positives.

The highly skilled copywriter does this through several well placed iterations of the benefits, so yes, face to face selling is important in copywriting.

    Writing.

That was the only skill I had when I started (and I don't have many more than that now - not to any significant level, anyway), so I know that's all you need: the rest you can learn.

The ability to judge whose advice is worth listening to and who's just repeating misinformation that they imagine to be true. (If that's a "skill" ... I suppose it is, more or less?).

Only if the pate is accompanied by some hot buttered toast whilst sat in front of a roaring fire as the snow falls outside creating a wonderful cold, white landscape which you are safe from.

The cat is curled up in front of the fire on the rug just lapping up the warmth and comfort.

You get the picture, but I actually don't like mackerel, so, no.

I have to go with all of the others and keep my writing skills.

It's just what I do, but over and beyond that, I couldn't post here on the forum without that skill.

I couldn't even read about all of the sumptuous food being discussed if others didn't have that skill, either.

      Writing as well, because it's:

      1) What got me here
      2) How I've made money thus far on the interwebs
      3) What people like most about my sites (articles)
