What software is needed but not there?

I'm a senior software developer looking at getting into the WSO side of the site. I've been lurking for some time now and I think it's time to make a move.

What software do you guys wish was there, but just isn't...or maybe it is, but just doesn't work. I'd love your ideas and feedback. Your ideas may be worth more then just a few minutes of your time. For reasonable ideas I'm willing to form a partnership so we both get paid.

I'm not looking for investors or money of any sort. I can cover all associated cost. I just need the ideas.

A cheap alternative to Senuke would be nice.

Let me suggest you do some research (okay... Google) Dane Maxwell. He helps people identify and build software businesses that are tightly targeted to specific niches.

I'll almost guarantee you'll get something out of your research.

      Best of luck.

Torrent downloader? There seems to be a mess of them for free already. And I personally use uTorrent with very good results.

Youtube copier? Is there a market for stealing videos?

Talk of stealing and torrents isn't appreciated here. It's a good way to get permanently booted.

Torrent might have been written for it(I don't know), but there ARE legitimate uses for torrent. High speed distributed delivery of data? Some big companies spend MILLIONS for something like that!

Doesn't Senuke have affordable monthly plans as well. Last time I checked they had different plans that you could select, there is also Extreme SEO Tools that offer cheaper plans as well.

Translator for software version incompatibilities -

...for example when things go wrong when Windows has an upgrade - browsers, other apps, etc start tweaking - may be major or minor issues.

somehow to be able to loop around or redirect in such a way as to bypass <le detour> and continue to execute (without locking up or creating an error state)

Call it the Bypass - get a BypassCard.ms PASS!
    Take a Bypass, Son.
Actually Function Again In Spite of the Latest 'Updgrade'!

I could give you numerous examples of incompatibilities with Windows (whatevah-the-latest-couple-versions), and even Norton, vs FireFox, vs Chrome --even after their 'patches' there are still issues but oh well.

I am sure plenty of people recognize the so-called 'glitches' so i don't need to put you to sleep enumerating them all.

(some of this i read years ago is due to Microsoft using 'proprietary' code rather than the industry standard that would ensure open and forward communication across platforms).

    yep - magic for $10 a copy!
    wso style!

    I don't' want much.

    hehehehe

Well, 35 years ago, a couple guys who today are often just called "K&R", "Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie", wrote what is considered THE book on C. It said to gracefully degrade if you can't allocate memory. That is supposed to be the STANDARD though, admittedly, it came out 3 years after microsoft opened their doors.

Microsoft, in their fundementals book required to study for some of the earlier programming certificates said to call ASSERT!

What does that mean to YOU? Well, let's say you are editing a long document, and try to execute a complex function....

      1. K&R method? Perhaps save the document, display an error, and let you continue, or abort.
      2. Microoft method? BLUE SCREEN, saying you have a null pointer!

Anyway, your idea is one many probably thought of, but it usually isn't possible. With my example, for example, there is no reliable way to bypass it.

torrents are perfectly legal as long as you're not sharing copyrighted material. Companies like M$, Ubuntu, Fedora, Redhat, Cisco use torrents to distribute their free operating systems. Free music, movies from people like Sundance and other film festivals. I can go on and on about legal torrent use. Just like a gun, gun's don't kill, people kill. Torrent's don't violate copyrights, people do.

Yeah, it was when you asked if there was a market for stealing something that raised the red flag. Torrents don't steal, people do.
