I remember hearing this song when I was a kid. I've found it again and can't stop listening to it. Listen to the lyrics... really makes you think! Listened to several versions, but I like this one best.

Oh yeah, I've liked this song since the first time I heard decades ago. This and Malaguena are my two favorite Roy Clark songs.

The song was originally released in 1964 and sung by Charles Aznavour in French. Since then it's been recorded by numerous singers, and the most popular is by Roy Clark (according to Wikipedia). I was listening to it sung by Johnny Mathis (love his songs!) and wasn't too interested in hearing it sung by Roy Clark since I'm not a big Country Western fan. But I must say, this version is phenomenal.

And yes, you're right LeeLee, it is beautiful, and the lyrics even more so. It's like they say...

        Wow. I do indeed.

Roy was a staple in my Dads collection

He is a master of all string instruments

Loved him on Hee Haw too.

Wonder if he's still alive? Or Buck Owens for that matter?

Buck Owens died several years ago - but Roy Clark is about 80 now.

I love that song and one of my favorite other version is
