Wow.

What a nice move becoming internet marketers if this is what our college degrees will get us nowadays.

McDonald's want ad demands bachelor's degree, two years experience for cashier | WashingtonExaminer.com

College education, useless degrees for the "real world."

You have minimum wage laws in your country. If I'm going to pay someone more than I'm willing to pay them to do something, I might as well hire somebody better.

If you come to India, almost everyone that can be hired in the service industry has a bachelor's degree. Bachelor degrees are not worth that much anymore, at least in India.

Yet they hire high school grads for our DHS and TSA.

Anyone that can look at what's going on in this country and not see that we are being brought to our knees purposefully and decisively is just obtuse.

They dumbed down highschool. The new highschool graduate level is BACHELORS! SERIOUSLY! So the requirements really haven't changed much, the level of education has.

      I agree Sandee!

I always thought that the people who worked at McDonald's were kids as their first job, and those who couldn't find anything else at the time and were hard pressed for money.

I don't think people with Bachelor's are knocking their door down seeking employment!

I wish OTHERS would realize that those jobs are meant for KIDS! The low skills, possible flexible hours, and high turn around fits better with kids. It is to be a STEPPING STONE, NOT a foundation!

    I applied for the job.

I told them I can't work mornings because of classes, I can't work afternoons because of band practice, can't work evenings because of homework, I can't work weekends because of sports/practice. However my schedule is wide open for a 1/2 hour on Thurs. between band practice & homework.

I think I'll get the job.

HEY, they have to cut the average employees week by over 10 hours a week!

THAT means they need someone to work 1.43 to about 4 hours a day, 7 days a week. At least in the US.

YEAH, I don't know if anyone put the dots together, but I guess I will....

People got upset because education wasn't free.

They made it free, asserting that a certain level would be, and had to be, the baseline.

They dumbed it down. HECK, Look at this RECENT testing scandal, one of MANY!!!!! https://www.google.com/#hl=en&output...w=1366&bih=663 even people that CAN'T READ are passing the WRITTEN tests!

NOW, to get a highschool education, you have to spend 2-4 years in COLLEGE! Even in the cheapest ones, it isn't free! If you are LUCKY, you won't end up in one of the dumbed down colleges.

IRONIC, HUH! But they STILL get the TAXES, GRANTS, INCREASES, LOTTERY MONEY, etc....

Apparently the story has changed since you folks looked at it.

Update: The McDonald's owners say there is no college requirement for the job.

So I wonder if the person who took the ad at the paper or called it in to them was just being funny or whether they realized they were being laughable dick heads and just retracted it?

I almost posted asking if anyone actually verified this and got McD's side of the story.

It's unlikely McD's would make such a request. By hiring over-qualified people, they know that person would be looking for another job from Day 1.

If someone really wanted a cashier job at McDs, you'd probably be MUCH better off saying you didn't have any college.

Or...maybe someone just made an honest mistake? It is possible that whoever placed the ad got the job requirements mixed up, confusing the requirements for an assistant manager with a cashier. There's a number of other possibilities for an honest mistake, not to mention that the mistake may have been made by someone other then McDs.

Considering the OP and the article quoted is from the 4th is it beyond the realms of possibility that the Ad was originally from the 1st?
