Does Anyone Here Have Some Media Contacts?

Yo, I'm wondering if any Warriors have any contacts within the news media. (friend, relative, friend of a friend, etc) The reason being is that I'm working on getting one of my friends, who's a "guru", onto a major news outlet, and knowing someone who knows someone "inside" will help to make this task easier. I'm utilizing my own network of course, but I see no harm in asking my fellow Warriors for a few leads too.

So call a publicist. They are unlikely to answer the phone themselves, but if you leave a message - make this guy sound exciting enough (angle), and leave his contact. Don't have to know anyone to get a killer phone message to them - and, from my experience, they are more likely to get back to a phone message than an email, etc. Can't figure that one out -- just know it works that way.

Are you kidding? Media people are really easy to meet. I ran into a few in pubs (when I used to go to pubs...a long time ago). Nowadays, it is too easy. Use twitter, badmouth someone then when they respond, say, I was just kidding, I'm a big fan and wanted to chat with you. Sounds silly, but it worked for a friend of mine who wanted to get a director on board a film project.

Thunderbird is absolutely correct. The media people are always on the lookout for interesting people with a "story" that will help the listening audience. It is really quite easy.

You simply need a book called "Gebbie All In One."

It is from Press release distribution | Media contacts | Email the media | Publicity lists and it is fairly expensive, but can easily pay for itself with one or two good interviews.

Better sill, check your local library. They will have a copy.

To get radio interviews go to Radio Industry News, New Music, Music Promotion, Radio Station Song Charts | AllAccess.com and set up an account - it's free. This site will give you the producers (contact person) at every radio station in the USA.

I and a cohort have used this many times to get on radio, some interviews were over the phone, some local stations had us come to the station to sit in a studio with the talk-show DJ.

It works.

Don,

I was thinking specifically about Mark as the current owner/maintainer. Sometimes the quality of things like that drops when they change hands.

It's been a while. Long enough that my original copy of the directory is on floppy disk.
