I'm sure you all know their big hit, "Whiter Shade Of Pale" and their not so big
hit "Conquistador" but this was one of their best songs. It may be a little
high brow for some, but I love it LOL.

Enjoy!

      Hi Stephen,

Wow, this group brings back fantastic memories for us folk who lived
the 60's and 70's rock music era.

Thanks for the memories my friend

        Patricia and Sandy:

It's nice to have folks around here who remember this stuff.

For me, it's an era that's almost lost. Very few stations even play this music
anymore, if any of them. My record collection is, well, as my wife calls them,
"my frizbee collection". Forget trying to replace all this stuff.

I'm just glad YouTube is around. I can't believe all the folks out there who
actually remember some of this obscure music.

Anyway, I'll keep finding them as long as I've got a few members who like
        hearing them.

        Thanks.

You would love XM Satellite Radio (merging with Sirrius)

They have a channel for each decade back to the 1940's and coming forward to the 2000s and then about 125 other 'niche' channels.

For the first 3 years I had it in my car (and can sign on from my computer with Win Media) I was stuck on the 50's and 60's. Now I finally got sick of that and am doing the punk rock station (Fungus 53).

Prior to this I did go on a little binge and bought a lot of oldies on CDs and casettes including alot of jazz, etc.

They say if you can remember the 1960's you weren't there. LOL - we were there but who knew. So it is always nice to go back there and remember what you forgot.

          OK!

p.s. what is a record? LOL

Steven, I think I'm a couple of years older than you and I definitely remember this stuff! Due to reasons that would be too long to explain here, some people were helping me clean my garage very recently when they said something to the effect of "my goodness, you have a gold mine here!"
What were they talking about? They had seen my record collection. I have I would guestimate over 2000 albums and 3000 45's.
And, as it seems you have already found, YouTube can be great for finding old abscure music.

Edit: By the way, I can find very few people that can match me in music trivia for anything from the 60s to the 90s

Well, I don't know about the 90s (I really kind of lost touch after the 80s)
but for the 60s and 70s I think I'd give you a run for your money on the
really obscure stuff, especially in the 70s.

And I do have to say I usually tell people music died in the 90s.It's definitely not my strongest decade.

Well, I was going to hit you with one that I know you'd never get but the
problem is, everything is up on the Internet these days so just about
anything is easy to find. Honestly, I can't believe I actually found this group
but I guess there are some real freaks out there.

Okay, back in 1972 a group by the name of the Chesapeake Jukebox Band
(I kid you not) came out with a tune that just about cracked the Billboard
Top 40. The album was so hard to get that I had to go to a special store in
New York City to pick it up. Most people when I ask them if they head of
the group look at me like I had two heads.

What was the name of this one hit wonder?

Hmmm, first rock 'n roll western...see that's where I'm weak. Movie music
was never my thing other than the Beatles movies like A Hard Days Night,
Help and Yellow Submarine. I wasn't even into Spinal Tap, though I know a lot
                          of people who were.

I wouldn't even know where to begin to think of what the first rock 'n roll
western was and most likely when you tell me, I've probably never heard of
the movie, let alone see it.

Well, if you want, you can pick up their album online (amazingly).

The name of the song was "Until We Meet Again."

It was an oddball tune to say the least. I'd say their music was a cross
between Klaatu and The Beatles and even that really doesn't nail it. I've yet
                        to hear anyone like them.

Here's where you can pick up a copy.

Chesapeake Jukebox Band - Until We Meet Again

There are no YouTube videos for these guys and since the only thing I
have this on is vinyl, I can't upload it.

I had way too much time on my hands in the 70s. I lived in record stores
and when I wasn't in school, I had the radio glued to my ear.

                        It was a sad sight.

Sounds like we were doing the same things in the 70's. I actually worked at a few record stores back then.

Thats why I went ahead and linked to it.... it had Joe Wash for sure, and I think it had the James Gang too. It was written by members of the Firesign theater, and also had Country Joe, of country joe and the fish (Woodstock fame) DOug Kershaw, and another band I was going to quiz ya on, but I can't think of a good question for them so I'm going to mention them here...The New York Rock And Roll Ensemble.
The movies was awful, but the soundtrack was good. lol

Yeah, I never really liked those groups but I remember the big promos at
the time in WABC for the rock n roll revival at Englishtown, NJ that
featured a lot of these groups. It was really big in 1971 if I remember
                                  correctly.

I really didn't like Joe Walsh until he came out with his solo albums in
the mid 70s and then joined The Eagles.

It's a miracle I didn't have a mental breakdown with all the bands I used
to listen to then. I'd listen to the Carpenters one minute and King Crimson
                                  the next.

                                  I was a disturbed child.

Okay, here's another one for you.

I'm sure you remember the big hit from 1973 "Brother Louie" by Stories.

Well, in 1972, they had their first song that didn't sound anything like their
big hit. It just about cracked the Billboard top 40. I tried finding it online but
forget it. I doubt many remember this one.

What was the name of their first song?

You know, I typed in "Stories" + "I'm Coming Home" into Google and I actually
found a few sites with the song mentioned. I was in total shock.

I can't find an mp3 of it though or a video.

It's a song you really gotta hear. Very catchy.

Deserved a much better fate on the charts.

well, we should start a different thread so this one can get back on topic, but its been fun!
And you never answered me about remembering the Klaatu controversy.

Oh yeah, Klaatu. Yeah, it was supposed to be that it was really the Beatles
back as a new group. That was one of them. That group had so much
mystery about it. I don't think any of the albums had a list of musicians.

Boy, we really took this off topic. You know, speaking of the Carpenters,
they did a version of Klaatu's "Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft" that
                                                wasn't all that bad.

Klaatu's best song though was "Dear Christine."

                                                I don't think that's at YouTube either.

                                                Here's the lyrics:

                                                Twas one long year today
                                                I left Bournemouth and you
                                                Adventure, salt and spray
                                                King's service I must do
But dear Christine I hold you dearly
If only you could hear me
                                                I send my love sincerely
In hopes that we're not merely hanging on

At sea there's time for thought
My head was filled with you
With quill in hand I sought
                                                To bridge the endless blue

But dear Christine I hold you dearly
If only you could hear me
                                                I send my love sincerely
In hopes that we're not merely hanging on
                                                On and on

And dear Christine I'm just a man who
Believes in dreams that come true
And if you feel like I do
When I return I'll find you hanging on

Oh, And I'm not into movies music much either, just as a fringe interest. Spinal Tap is hard for me to watch, and I don't think I've managed to sit completely thru Rocky Horro Picture Show yet, tho I do love the song "Time Warp".....
