In the past, I have always salivated over top laptop but could never bring myself to pay for me. But today, I have finally bought the top of the top. It is a lenovo X301, which is thought to be one of the best laptops ever.

Lenovo ThinkPad X301 Laptop reviews - CNET Reviews

It comes configured with a 128G SSD Flash Memory Hard Drive, and 4 GB RAM.

I have looked at it for more than a year and I finally went ahead after receiving a deep promotion discount by e-mail. I was very worried that the price of the flash memory used for its hard drive may collapse suddenly.

So far, everything about this laptop is just amazing. It is completely silient and generates almost no heat. The screen is very bright. This was one of the main reasons why I bought it since I work outside quite a lot. Nothing was going to stop me from buying it today, not even having my adsense account disabled!

Now since I have what I think is the perfect laptop, I hope that it will be accompanied by a massive increase in productivity.

    Congratulations, Derek.

There is only one danger with your new laptop.

You'll zoom through all your tasks better than ever before.

Then you will grin, and sigh, and make more forum posts about how happy you are. This will take away all the time you saved. But at least you'll be happy!

That's amazing that something that thin and powerful doesn't generate much heat.

Mine (which is old) has always given me heat issues.

Nice machine. Just one question: why a laptop and not a desktop?

Thanks everybody, I hope I am not going to wake up tomorrow with buyer's remorse.
My business is not doing great at the moment but on the other hand, I need all the best tools available to get through this. Afterall, I easily spend 6-10 hours a day on a computer. I was also having trouble in seeing the small screen and fonts of my Lenovo X61.

I have always prefered laptops and prefer to work outside me home. I like working at a cafe or KFC in the morning, and then at Starbucks or McDonalds in the evening. However, I also work outside on a park bench and table quite a lot. Basically, I am a real road warrior and I work everywhere with a wireless broadband connection. My laptops are so worn that they would almost fall apart within a year. Quite often, I have no choice but to replace the case and screen. Sometimes, the motherboard fails because rain has seeped into the laptop. By the way, the X301 is water-resistant as well.

If there is any deficiency with this computer, it is that it lacks an SD card slot. I store all my key data on an SD card. I suppose I will have to change to using a USB thumb drive.

Business not doing great... buy a laptop.

I would love to get a new laptop. My Dell Inspiron laptop is about to crawl its last mile... but i'm too cheap to buy a new one. Laptops are kind of like cars... after a while you just get attached to them and hate to see them go.

    Derek,

I'm a Thinkpad fan, but I wasn't familiar with this model. The waterproof feature would give peace of mind when the weather is rainy.

When you wear out your old laptops, is the keyboard worn out or is it still going strong?

You don't need to switch to USB thumb drives. For under $10, you can get an adapter that has a USB jack, and a slot for your SD card.

Well it certainly is one of the best brands around. I really like the Lenovo track point (I think that's what it is called) the red dot in the middle of the lenovo laptop keyboard. After the second time I pushed it I liked it better than the touch pad. Push it harder and the cursor moves farther and faster. That was just a couple of tries on a laptop I didn't own. I understand if you push down on it, it also clicks? They do have it patented so I've never seen another manufacturer with it but it is one more positive thing about it.

Personally I like at least a 15.4 inch screen. So it weigh 2 lbs more. People need the exercise.

Those Lenovo's are great machines. I used to support those at an Energy company I did IT support for. Only downside was they were using T61's and the batteries went bad almost frequently. I was constantly on the phone getting warranty replacements.

You want a great machine? Get Panasonic Toughbook. $5k for a laptop. WOW!
