I asked my son, 3, "What sound does rain make when it hits an umbrella?" He said, "No!" I asked, "No, what?" He patiently explained, "I don't not want to play games right now, daddy. Sorry."

Kids will get you every time.

My kid is on the end stages of potty training. In church he hid behind a pew
pulled his pants down and took a dump and then used his hand to wipe.

He was so proud of himself ... that he did not go in his big boy pants,
and extra proud because he remembered to wipe.

talk about mortified .. and kinda proud all at the same time.

      LOL Ken!

Oh my gosh, I can't even imagine. The most embarrassing thing one of my kids did in church when they were little was call their Sunday School teacher a "big fat rat" after they were scolded for not paying attention.

I would have taken "big fat rat" any day over a dookie behind the pew.

Actually tho my kid called one of his toys "stupid" the other day.
I know for a fact nobody in both families say that word.

we regulate his tv... so it must be from school.

that kills me. I am paying thru the nose and he gets to learn that word
        and who knows what else.

I really tried to emphasize that he was NOT allowed to say that word,
and if i ever heard him say it again he would be put on time out.

well, a few days later i hear him playing with his toys ... being all kinds
of loud.. you know ... like little boys are.

then it gets quite. so my ears perk up.

he is whispering .... "your stupid, your dead" ...

          Little ones

How can you not love them though?

I feel your pain about school and kids. When my kids' school district changed routes to try and save gas, they were going to have my 10 year old daughter on the bus with 18 year olds!

My 10 year old was a year advanced in grades, but I wouldn't have it. I hired our next door neighbor's teenage son who was an awesome, wholesome, young man to give her a ride home every day in his car. I paid him $20 a week. It was worth it to me!

I have to be honest, i am not really sure what to do.
I am thinking home schooling. but that means i have to change my bizz
            around to do it.

He has tested way above average. So he is in a private school
            right now for gifted kids.

He was able to say his abc's and count to 100 forward and back before he was 2
and some light reading. .. with no help.

he has been in school a year now. I cannot get him to say his abc
i cant get him to count past ten

it is like he has went backwards ....

the only positive i have seen is he can write his name
an a few small words, THAT appears to be what he has learned at
school.. well that and a few bad words and actions.

pfft. I am sooo not cut out to be a teacher, but i am paying premium prices
and i am not joking when i say i think he went back wards since he has
            been in school.

my wife is just telling me to wait it out, it will fix itself.

            i dunno.

If it helps, I have two gifted children and I enrolled my first in a special school as well when she was 31/2. Two months in, they did a test, sorry, I honestly can't remember the name of it, but she tested at a 3rd grade level. She would come home and constantly tell us so and so said something bad, or so and so did something bad and was quite upset about it.

Hubby and I discussed it and decided if she was testing at that level just with our help (she pushed us to teach her, not us for her to learn) she still could learn but without all of the negative influences. She then entered public school at 5.

She did great! She was a President's Student to Student Ambassador for two years, graduated Salutatorian of her class in public school. She was honored with the President's Graduate of The Year award from North Central University in Minnesota with a 4.0 plus grade point average, was a missionary in the Philippines for 3 years and has a very good job now.

              If that helps any...

You both have gifted kids. That is amazing and rare. I have no idea where my toddler fits in the spectrum. It is too early to tell in his case. He does read, count, and do addition to a limited extent. He loves Lego and jigsaw puzzles. He isn't an obvious stand-out in the pre-school I take him to, except in making himself a little bit conspicuous by not fully joining in in group activities, being a kind of loud at play sometimes. The only time he embarrassed me there was when informed the teacher, "You sing out-of-tune."

His "gifts" seem mainly in zeroing on what's taboo and heading towards it like a heat-seeking missile, lol. Today he grabbed a box of tissue paper and said, "Tear! Make mess..." I said, "Hand it back to me." He made like he was handing it back to me, then pulled it away at the last minute. He did that again, playing me like a yoyo, then started running with it like he was aiming to do a football touchdown, laughing all the way.

ya know sometimes i am like wow... he is sooo smart.

then 20 minutes later i am am like .. wth, is this the same kid?
because he just did something sooo dumb, i cannot even put it on words.

So truthfully. I don't know if my kid is smart or not.
He is in a gifted school because people who are supposed to know

I am a first time dad. I look at everything with rose colored glasses.

and the cou da gra, is my kid kid knows the word ( without prompt) what an 18 sided object is,

but he still took a crap behind a pew.

Yeah, my kid also baffles me at times. Not always sure what to make of him. He's recently taken to chasing after pretty waitresses in restaurants rather than just sitting at the table with mommy and daddy. That makes it a little awkward to eat out nowadays, with me chasing after him, trying to corral him back to the table. At three, I don't know what is attracting him to waitresses.

when a woman says hi to my boy ... and this is since he figured out , HOW
to say hi, if he finds her nice looking ... he will flirt and flirt.

if he does not like her looks ... he ignores her ... and wont say a word.

for me .. what is more interesting is what he thinks is good looking ...
specially at the age with no pre conceived notions.

his mom has a friend .. her nick name is hubba hubba
he really likes her, so for the last year or so

every time he sees a female he likes ... he yells hubba hubba

                      now THAT is somewhat embarrassing.

In fact when a kid has a killer IQ, they can do stuff that is much weirder than kids with lesser intelligence, because they don't follow social norms like average kids do. Hmmm - well lets examine the smartest guy I ever knew. His IQ was around 190. He was also a short blond dude, but that is really beside the point here. The point was that his intelligence was outrageous. I used to interpret some of the girbish he called language to the other guys because he used partial words and a lot of very off the wall allusions and expected mathematical brains to follow him. For example, he responded to a conversation that "It's all a matter of ir and or". Everyone looked at me and I said "It's a matter of birth and abortion" (subject he was citing was unrelated and his comment was symbolism only so don't make morality jumps here).

Okay - now, this guy's idea of entertainment? He used to drop acid, strip down to his skivvies and drive 90 miles an hour through town in the middle of the night to prove you could think yourself invisible if you used the right mathematical formulas. (Our town was only around 10,000 people and I will be damned if I could figure out how he got away with this crap - but he did, so maybe he was right).

So why am I telling you this? So you can be thankful if the kid's IQ only registers in the 160's or 170's because above that -- people get just batsh** loco bizarre.

Last week, soon after I returned from the grocery store, I heard my toddler shout, "Done! Good job!" I inquired, "What's done?" Moments later, my wife asked me about new a new tube of toothpaste in the bathroom. I then noticed pasta sauce placed on the kitchen counter, and a box of crackers placed in the bread basket. Our three-year-old had put it away on his own initiative, then congratulated himself. We had never showed him anything about putting such stuff away. We were definitely surprised and amused by that.

In my neighborhood, I've seen half-Asian kids with blonde hair, but I don't think any had blue eyes. I always understood that there has to be blue eyes on both sides of the family for it to be possible for offspring to have blue eyes. Perhaps his mother has a touch of other ancestry, eg Ainu, Persian, or Turkish?

Very cool. My son is 1/2 Chinese, 1/2 White. I've been told he looks more like his mother, but I can see my side of the family in his looks. Here he is from last year:

That is a good looking young man.

How is his size? I ask because my kid is a good 6 - 8 inches shorter then
everyone else his age. I am over 6' so i was really hoping he would
get some of my height. But so far it doesn't' look like it. Altho at 3.5 he is
already half as tall as his mother.

Thanks for the compliment about my son. He's just turned 3 and the growth charts say his weight is average for his age and height is slightly above average. I wouldn't be too concerned about your son's height, since he seems well-nourished and taken care of. His high-intelligence is a testament to that, I'd reckon. Kids small for their age have been known to shoot up during adolescence. I'm always reading about athletes who were small and frail as kids, then became gigantinormous mesomorphs in their teens. Whatever his height turns out to be, he's doing great from what I see and will continue to do so, since such patterns tend to begin early in life.
