This guy spent $2,600 playing a ball tossing game at the fair.

Not a total loss.

He won a big stuffed banana with dreadlocks.

It will sell on Ebay for twice as much by a buyer who knows that the news coverage will be worth more than the asking price.

Now someone just needs to buy it... that'd be a story for sure.

As the price of gold bullion is falling, the stuffed banana with dreadlocks market is about to soar.

Good on him for being a canny investor and getting in before the boom.

Can't wait for his WSO explaining how he did it.

Carnival games don't need to be rigged, They are like Casino games, they odds always favor the house.Just the foot or so difference between the sucker,I mean customer and the game operator can make the difference of it being easily done or now.

Total lozer, comes to mind, as well as the fool one....

No, surprise that $2,600 was all he had, probably P**** the rest away on horse racing?

Once he lost $300 he should have thought, maybe l should go home have a cold shower, or go sit in a cool pub, and carefully think it through, not, l will show them, or l will get my $300 back, getting emotional is the biggest no-no when you gamble.

At worst he should have taken $300 or $500 tops and tried, again, then said, it is too risky to keep going, etc. I will stop there, unless he wanted to go to court?

Falls back to the old issue that $2,600 eventhough nice, doesn't change your financial outlook, in any real way, unless you pour it into some internet business, and get lucky, there isn't a lot you can do.

So he figures, l will p*** this away on something nice?

This sort of crap happens in AU all the time, the average Australian retires on a lump sum of roughly $120,000, average female, $50-60,000.

And the majority, knowing that the interest isn't as much as the pension, and it will adversely affect what pension amount they can get, spend it all.

Or they spend it on a luxury holiday or new 4 wheel drive or money for their kids, etc. Then go on the pension.

Or they invest it into a con condo setup, and lose it that way.

least this guy got a giant banana?

Must be worth at least $30?

I think the crime here is that they gave him half his money back. Maybe if they kept the money (their money), this idiot would have learned something.

Of course, that's wishful thinking on my part.

I don't know which is worse, the fact that he lost his "life savings" at a carnival, the fact that at his age his life savings was only $2,600, or the fact that he told the news about it.

He should put the stupid Banana on eBay and see if anyone who saw the report is generous enough to buy it for the money he lost.

Remember Ron; Everyone is either the victim or the hero of their story.
It's hard for him to spin this as being the hero, so he must be the victim.

Remember the Lottery is a Stupid tax? Carnival games are a stupid tax too.

This moron said that the games are rigged. Seriously? You mean there is someone in this world who didn't know they were rigged? (added later: "Rigged" is incorrect. More like "Far harder to win that it seems")

You pay a buck for the chance to win a $20 toy? Did he think he had a 50/50 chance to win? This is even more stupid than gambling.

He kept playing hoping to get his money back? He wasn't even playing for money.

After a thousand dollars, did he think he might win the next 1,000 tries?
Was he after 1,000 stuffed toys?

Oh well. I'm just glad he's not me.

Again, the games are not rigged. They don't need to be.
As Dennis said, A fool and his money........ emphasis on the fool part.
99% of the prizes are worth about 50 cents.

How many of you that go to carnivals play the games? I am going to bet the percentage is very low. Why? Because you are smart enough to know your chances of winning are extremely low.

Kim; I shouldn't have said "Rigged". Rigged means it is a fraud. A more correct term would be "Far more difficult to win that they look".

I'm reminded of Steve Martin in The Jerk, when he finds out that the carnival prizes are cheap and the game owner doesn't care if they win. Priceless.

I play the games WHEN I go to the carnival...which is not very often. But I don't take anywhere NEAR $2,600 with me when I go! Come to think of it, I don't even take anywhere near $600 (or even $300) with me when I go...and I don't keep playing until my pockets are empty!

This man has a problem, and it's not that he lost $2,600 on a carnival game. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure both he and Tiger Woods have the SAME problem...! You see, Tiger's real problem was not really about the women or the s*x. It was about risk-taking. Same thing with this guy...

Claude, I had completely forgotten that in The Jerk.
And I also should apologize, I should say most are not rigged, there are a few,but the one he lost his money on is not. And even the rigged ones are mostly a thing of the past because the profit margin is high and the risk of getting arrested is low if you run an honest booth.

I consider myself a semi-authority on this. I have studied the games as part of a larger field of interest.

Steve Martin was doing magic when he started. He did comedy magic mostly.
Harry Anderson ( who us oldsters should remember from Night Court) did "con man" magic.

Here is a nice clip of him:

I'm not sure where to start.

First, maybe if the guy didn't throw like a wussy he wouldn't have dropped that much coin.

As far as a carnival working a rigged game..

Really? Really? Of course the games are stacked in your disfavor. All contests are. (like those little claw thingies that grab the stuffed animals. TOTAL WORK)

What happened to Carnie justice man.

PS: That dude must have been drunk, to A spend $300 in the first place and B actually go home to get more money? And he claims the game was rigged? THEN WHY KEEP PLAYING?!?!?!

Maybe some old Gypsie casted a spell on him ala Stephen King that entranced him to continue dropping his money.

    Bad bad Carnies.

Those little claw things are not likely rigged, either. I watched an older gentleman repeatedly insert quarter, move claw, clutch stuffed animal and drop it in the chute to win, then insert another quarter, move claw, clutch stuffed animal, and drop it in the chute to win again...over and over again until the machine was almost empty!

I was at a pizza place with my daughter when he did it, and after the pizza came and we ended up sitting at the next table over from him, he offered my daughter her choice to pick any stuffed animal in the pile. I couldn't believe the size of the stack of toy animals he had sitting there, so I asked him how he did it.

It turned out he used to repair the machines for a living!

But one things for sure, it was definitely possible to win...at least with that particular machine, anyway.
